Iranian regime announced<\/a> on Tuesday it will start uranium enrichment<\/span>\u00a0at 20 percent purity<\/span>\u00a0in 24 hours. By taking this step<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the regime nearly violates all its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) also known as<\/span>\u00a0the 2015<\/span>\u00a0Iran nuclear deal.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is part of the regime\u2019s nuclear extortion<\/a> campaign, but why<\/span>\u00a0has<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tehran taken such steps<\/span>?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s apologists try to blame the United States for withdrawing from the JCPOA<\/a>, citing the regime\u2019s non-compliance with the deal. They try to spread this false notion that putting pressure on the ruling theocracy in Iran\u00a0<\/span>resulted in the regime\u2019s breach<\/span>es of<\/span>\u00a0its commitments and getting closer to\u00a0<\/span>acquiring<\/span>\u00a0nuclear weapons.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn this critical and complicated situation, [the regime] has to settle with the world community,\u201d wrote the state-run run Setareh-<\/span>Sobh<\/span>\u00a0daily on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u201cWe [the ruling system] have reached desperation and are in a deadlock,\u201d wrote the state-run\u00a0<\/span>Mostaghel<\/span>\u00a0daily on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA few month<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0later when Rouhani\u2019s government hand<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0the treasury to the new government, w<\/span>e will see a negatively balanced treasury with a lot of debt and a budget deficit<\/span>,\u201d Ehsan\u00a0<\/span>Arkani<\/span>, a member of the regime\u2019s parliament<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0said\u00a0<\/span>on December 31.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis deadlock has\u00a0<\/span>kept us begging [the U.S.], while we know the result is zero,\u201d wrote the state-run Keyhan daily\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tehran\u2019s nuclear extortion campaign is out of desperation and not a sign of power.\u00a0 The regime is engulfed with crises, and sanctions are crushing this corrupted apparatus. The regime\u2019s president, Hassan Rouhani, said the regime is \u201cin the toughest situation within the last century.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime faces a restive society, which blames the regime and its officials for all economic and social hardships. People witness how the regime plunders them<\/span>. They see<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>how it\u00a0<\/span>deprives them\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0fresh air by exporting more gas and instead using fuel oil in power plants<\/span>. People witness how the regime abandoned them during the coronavirus outbreak, and now plays with their lives by not purchasing\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>vaccine.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime is losing its grip on power, and<\/span>\u00a0it<\/span>\u00a0tries to save it<\/span>self<\/span>\u00a0by this nuclear extortion and counting on the\u00a0<\/span>West\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>appeasement policy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But<\/span>\u00a0th<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0is a gamble<\/span>\u00a0for the regime<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The regime intends to exploit the political situation in the U.S. and put more pressure on the European Union to succumb to Tehran\u2019s demands<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s short notice and its capability of returning to 20% uranium enrichment show how flawed, incomplete, and uncomprehensive the JCPOA was. So, despite the regime\u2019s nuclear extortion, the only way to control this regime from obtaining a nuclear bomb is to increase international pressure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The U.S. administration condemned the regime\u2019s nuclear extortio<\/span>n, Japan also condemned the regime\u2019s 20% uranium enrichment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>EU<\/span>\u00a0warned on Monday (4 January) that Iran\u2019s move to enrich uranium to 20% would be a \u201cconsiderable departure\u201d from Tehran\u2019s commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cT<\/span>he regime’s announcement that it has once more increased uranium enrichment levels is a declaration of war on the international community<\/span>,\u201d wrote\u00a0<\/span>Deut<\/span>s<\/span>che<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Welle<\/span>\u00a0in this regard.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s nuclear extortion is a desperate move for a moribund regime. The EU has tried the appeasement policy\u00a0<\/span>but failed. The last time the international community tried to contain the regime by signing <\/span>the JCPOA,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>did not work so well. The regime continued its nuclear\u00a0<\/span>activities yet<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>received financial incentives to fund its terrorism.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI),<\/a> which exposed<\/a> the regime\u2019s nuclear activities for the first time, revealed in April 2017, how the regime\u00a0<\/span>continued secretly its nuclear weapons program.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The EU leaders<\/a> should note that their negotiations with the regime, particularly <\/span>with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif,<\/a> only allowed the regime to continue its malign activities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Zarif and his\u00a0<\/span>Ministry, in return\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>the EU\u2019s appeasement policy<\/a>, sent a diplomat-terrorist,\u00a0<\/span>Assadollah<\/span>\u00a0Assadi<\/span>,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to plant a bomb in the heart of Europe in 2018.\u00a0<\/span>During\u00a0<\/span>Assadi\u2019s trial\u00a0<\/span>on<\/span>\u00a0November 27 and December 3, the Belgian prosecutors revealed details of how Assadi used\u00a0<\/span>his\u00a0<\/span>diplomat privileges and the Ministry\u2019s facilities to transfer explosives using a commercial airliner\u00a0<\/span>to Vienna<\/span>, where he worked as\u00a0<\/span>the third secretary at Iran\u2019s embassy, and delivered the bomb to two other\u00a0<\/span>terrorists<\/span>, tasking them to plant the bomb\u00a0<\/span>in the opposition rally in Paris in June 2018.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

History shows\u00a0<\/span>dictators and expansionist regimes like the one in Iran, or Adolf Hitler\u2019s regime in Germany, will never abide by their obligations. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When\u00a0<\/span>Neville Chamberlain\u00a0<\/span>signed the\u00a0<\/span>disgraceful<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Munich\u00a0<\/span>Agreement<\/span>\u00a0in 1938<\/span>, he claimed he had returned from Germany\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>with peace for our time<\/span>.\u201d But\u00a0<\/span>less than a year after the agreement, Hitler’s invasion of Poland began World War II<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Negotiations with the ruling theocracy will only embolden it. The EU should halt negotiations with the regime and sanction Zarif and other officials.\u00a0<\/span>As the Iranian Resistance has reiterated, the re-imposition of six Security Council resolutions, the complete halt to enrichment, the closure of nuclear sites, and anywhere, anytime inspections are indispensable\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>prevent<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0the regime from acquiring a nuclear bomb.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
