His execution brough the number of executions to eight within a week, suggesting a deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The prison authorities had transferred Mr. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/iran-eighth-executions-in-one-week-javid-dehghan-executed-despite-domestic-and-international-outrage\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Dehghan Khaled<\/a> to the quarantine ward on Thursday before his execution. He was arrested in 2015 and went under severe tortures to confess to charges placed on him. The regime\u2019s torturers pulled his fingernails and lashed him using cables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Many human rights organizations and defenders reacted to Dehghan Khaled\u2019s execution, and had previously called for its halt. Amnesty International on Thursday urged the regime\u2019s authorities to \u201cimmediately halt the execution of Javid Dehghan, a member of Iran\u2019s disadvantaged Baluchi ethnic minority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cAmnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception. The death penalty is a violation of the right to life and the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment,\u201d the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/mde13\/3595\/2021\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> adds.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Iranian authorities must immediately halt the execution of Javid Dehghan, from Iran\u2019s Baluchi minority, scheduled for SATURDAY. Amnesty has documented a shocking catalogue of fair trial violations in his case &amp; calls for him to be granted a fair retrial. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7tHEngWOhS\">https:\/\/t.co\/7tHEngWOhS<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/O4zQ7yRdjG\">pic.twitter.com\/O4zQ7yRdjG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Amnesty Iran (@AmnestyIran) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AmnestyIran\/status\/1354868990095585281?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 28, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On January 28, Ali Motayeri, an Iranian-Arab prisoner, was executed in Ahvaz Sheiban Prison under the pretext of \u201cMoharebeh (Waging war against God)\u201d and \u201ccorruption on earth.\u201d He was wounded during his arrest in May 2018 and tortured to make a forced confession.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Prior to Javid Dehghan\u2019s execution, the regime hanged Iranian wrestler <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/wrestler-mehdi-ali-hosseini-hanged-after-five-years-in-prison\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Mehdi Ali Hosseini<\/a> on January 25 despite an international outcry to halt his execution. Ali Hosseini was the second athlete executed since September, when the regime hanged Iran\u2019s national hero <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/breaking-news-the-clerical-regime-in-iran-hanged-the-wrestler-navid-afkari\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Navid Afkari<\/a> for his role in the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/anniversary-of-2018-iran-protests-and-international-communitys-obligations\/\" rel=\"noopener\">2018 Iran protests<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The number of executions in Iran are on the rise. The genocidal regime has so far executed nearly 40 individuals in the last few months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The United Nations Human Rights Office has also condemned the rising number of executions in Iran. \u201cWe strongly condemn the series of executions \u2013 at least 28 \u2013 since mid-December, including of people from minority groups. We urge the authorities to halt the imminent execution of Javid Dehghan, to review his and other death penalty cases in line with human rights law,\u201d the UN Human Rights Twitter account posted on Friday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf7<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>: We strongly condemn the series of executions \u2013 at least 28 \u2013 since mid-December, including of people from minority groups. We urge the authorities to halt the imminent execution of Javid Dehghan, to review his and other death penalty cases in line with human rights law.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; UN Human Rights (@UNHumanRights) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UNHumanRights\/status\/1355121312453300225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 29, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Facing a restive society, the regime intends to intimidate the public by increasing its oppressive measures. Meanwhile, the international community\u2019s lack of action has emboldened the regime to continue its killing spree and continue its crimes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On December 12, the regime executed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/iranian-resistance-urges-un-eu-states-especially-france-to-firmly-condemn-the-execution-of-ruhollah-zam\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruhollah Zam<\/a>, a French resident. European countries had done nothing but \u201ccondemning\u201d his death sentence. After Zam\u2019s execution, while European countries canceled their business forum with the regime in Tehran, the regime\u2019s President Hassan Rouhani said Zam\u2019s execution will have no effect on Tehran\u2019s relation with Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Furthermore, the regime\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned some of the ambassadors of those European countries which had condemned Zam\u2019s execution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The recent executions in Iran and the regime\u2019s disregard for global \u201ccondemnations\u201d suggest the mullahs enjoy a \u201csystematic impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This systematic impunity has formed largely because of the inaction of the Western democracies, who had prioritized economy over human rights when it comes to Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The trace of both systematic human rights violations and impunity by the regime\u2019s authorities go back to the regime\u2019s most horrific crimes against humanity in 1988.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the summer of 1988, the Iranian regime extrajudicially executed over <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/1988-massacre-of-political-prisoners-in-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">30,000 political prisoners<\/a>. Seven UN human rights experts in a letter <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/significance-of-un-experts-letter-on-1988-massacre-victory-for-justice-seeking-movement\/\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> in December 2020, underlined this massacre may amount to \u201ccrimes against humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">They also underlined how the world community\u2019s inaction \u201chad a devastating impact on the survivors and families as well as on the general situation of human rights in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The recent executions in Iran are testaments to the devasted human rights situation in Iran. In fact, the regime has already expressed its intention to continue crimes against humanity, not only by the ongoing executions, but by having <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/publications\/special-reports\/iran-who-is-ebrahim-raisi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> as its Judiciary Chief. Due to its dark human rights record and based on the evidence, the European leaders are able to target the regime and its authorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">They should impose sanctions on the regime\u2019s authorities and sever all ties with the regime unless the human rights violations in Iran stop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As Mrs. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the opposition president-elect, recently said: \u201cThis regime cannot last even for a day without torture and execution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mrs. Rajavi urged the United Nations and human rights organizations, as well as European countries and the United States, to take immediate measures to save the lives of death row prisoners.
