Every day disturbing news comes from Iran of how poverty forces people to harm themselves or sell their body parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On Monday, Mohammad, a 14-year-old boy in Mahshahr, southwest Iran, committed suicide. Mohammad was his family\u2019s breadwinner and had quit school to help his elderly parents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He worked as a street paddler, selling purified water to people on a bicycle one of his relatives had given him. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, no one accepted to purchase water from Mohammad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mahshahr is among Iran\u2019s richest cities in terms of natural resources such as gas and oil. Some of the major ports in Iran are located in Mahshahr, such Khomeini Port. Yet, locals in Mahshahr are living in terrible conditions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mohammad Fazeli, 14, hanged himself Sunday in his home in Mahshah, SW <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>.<br \/>He was a child laborer &amp; had to quit school last year to work.<br \/>Rampant poverty has led to tragic suicides while the regime plunders the people&#39;s wealth &amp; use it for suppression &amp; export of terrorism. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xy58k3d3Ur\">pic.twitter.com\/xy58k3d3Ur<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IRAN HRM (@IranHrm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IranHrm\/status\/1356508126674096128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 2, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">When the regime\u2019s Vice-President Eshagh Jahangiri visited Mahshahr on Sunday, people protested his presence and shouted at him, displaying their anger at the regime\u2019s mismanagement and inhumane policies which have brough nothing but misery for Iranians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In this regard, the state-run Vatan-e Emrooz daily on Sunday <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vatanemrooz.ir\/newspaper\/page\/3136\/1\/229995\/0\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> that \u201cpeople\u2019s protests when they meet officials have become a habit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In a similar development, a heartbreaking video circulating on social media on Sunday showed a 10-year-old boy speaking to a citizen journalist, saying he is his family\u2019s breadwinner and working as a garbage collector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He says: \u201cI earn 15,000 tomans a day [less than a dollar, with the current free market exchange rate] by scavenging garbage to feed our family of six, because my parents are unable to work. I buy a bread, and we eat it with tea.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Heartbreaking video of a 10-year-old Iranian child laborer who makes less than a dollar a day but has to pay for his household. Some 4,600 garbage collector children were identified in Tehran according to this survey,\u201d Mahmoud Abbasi, the regime\u2019s deputy minister of justice for human rights, said in an interview with regime\u2019s official ILNA news agency on November 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Another shocking video from Iran shows a man who has put his heart for sell. He says: \u201cWhat can I do? I have to feed my children.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A father has put up an ad to sell his heart. In September 2019, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) published an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/selling-body-parts-a-tragedy-in-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">exclusive report<\/a> about the sale of body parts in Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cAs the economy is falling apart, a lucrative business is on the rise in Iran: selling bodily organs. It might be the most unique trade in the world. In recent years, rising living costs and poverty have greatly contributed to the booming business. It has become a systemic problem throughout the country. Kidneys are most in-demand, but a business that started more than a decade ago is no longer limited to the kidney but includes liver, bone marrow, and cornea. The liver is the second most frequently traded organ. Blood plasma is the latest addition to the list,\u201d read the NCRI\u2019s report in part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The NCRI report added that many people act like brokers on the internet for selling organs. According to the NCRI, \u201cIn addition to functioning through the Internet, brokers often wander around major hospitals and approach relatives of patients who need a transplant in order to assess their financial status and make an offer an offer. Brokers often take a 50 percent commission on resulting sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">One of the cases of selling body parts is the one of a \u201ccomputer science Ph.D. student [who had] offered his kidneys for sale on July 23, 2019, by posting a written text at the bus stop. He wrote that he was doing so because he was unable to afford the cost of care for his disabled mother and had no money for rent and education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">While the regime\u2019s officials and apologists have tried to blame international sanctions for these tragedies in Iran, the NCRI\u2019s study underlines that \u201cthe painful trend of selling body parts continued and even intensified following the signing of the Iran Nuclear Deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA), which released more than $100 billion and enabled the regime to sell more than two million barrels of oil on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As the state-run Arman daily on January 27 acknowledged \u201cThe root of Iran\u2019s economic problems lies more in domestic politics than in international ones. The poverty line for a family of four in Iran has reached\u00a0100 million rials (&#36;400). Regime president\u00a0Hassan Rouhani\u00a0has claimed there&#039;s an abundance of products in Iran &amp; stores are full. What he doesn\u2019t say is that most Iranians can only watch these full store shelves in envy. Iran is the 8th richest country in terms of natural resources, but ranks 120th from a quality-of-life standpoint. Economist Farshad Momeni warned on December 1, 2020: Iran\u2019s misery index (the aggregate ratio of inflation &amp; unemployment) has reached 70%. Alireza Zakani, head of the Parliament Research Center: \u201c70% of bank assets belong to 1% &amp; 90% of bank assets belong to 4% of the population.\u201d The regime tries to blame poverty on international sanctions. But even regime officials acknowledge that 70% of the economic fallout is due to the corruption. In a recent debate between former minister of transportation Abbas Akhundi &amp; Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghaddam, member of the Assembly of Experts, it was revealed: Every year &#36;80 billion in imports\/exports are not registered &amp; &#36;20 billion of that goes to corrupt middlemen. It is clear that the status quo can&#039;t continue. Iran is a society that has undergone three major nationwide uprisings in less than two years. The regime only maintain to manage its hold on power through sheer brutality. Yet underlying problems, such as poverty, still remain. Iran\u2019s society is a dormant volcano. Arman Daily piece on January 19: \u201cTomorrow is too late. People&#039;s wails will become screasms &amp; quieting those screams will not be easy.\u201d https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/iran-poverty-corruption-unemployment-20210123\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">These tragic incidents will continue to grow under the mullahs\u2019 regime, because the regime will certainly continue wasting national wealth on terrorism or its other malign activities. The recent production of missiles and drones, plus the regime\u2019s race toward obtaining a nuclear bomb, are all clear examples of how the regime wastes Iranian people\u2019s wealth to continue its illicit activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The regime\u2019s economic mismanagement will have negative consequences for the mullahs and will add to the society\u2019s restiveness. In this regard, the state-run Vatan-e Emrooz daily on Sunday warned the officials: \u201cCertainly, the point that we should not ignore is the accumulation of anger that has arisen among the people, especially in deprived and remote areas. There have been several examples in recent months that should be taken seriously as warnings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Now, the regime should await the day of reckoning when people, as the state-run Mostaghel daily wrote on January 27, \u201cget fed up and come for\u201d the regime\u2019s officials.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite Iran&rsquo;s natural wealth, Iranians grapple with poverty due to the regime&rsquo;s inhumane policies.
