The number of suicide cases in January-February 2021 in Iran shows how deeply this phenomenon has become rooted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On January 25, a 16-year-old teenager committed suicide by jumping out of the sixth floor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On January 25, two female students in Dezful, southwest Iran, committed suicide by eating rice pills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The semi-official ISNA news agency quoted the governor of Gorgan, northern Iran, as saying that two young girls in Gorgan committed suicide by jumping from a bridge. &#8220;Both girls were seriously injured and taken to hospital,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On January 31 a labor child in Mahshahr, southwest Iran, committed suicide due to poverty.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Girl, 13, commits suicide in Gachsaran<br \/>A 13-year-old girl jumped off a bridge and died in Gachsaran on Thursday, Dec. 31. The Iranian Coroner\u2019s Office says 7% of annual suicides in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> are committed by teenagers. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HumanRights?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HumanRights<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/odhwKJdeSw\">pic.twitter.com\/odhwKJdeSw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IRAN HRM (@IranHrm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IranHrm\/status\/1345112903918231554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 1, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In mid-January, a 16-year-old boy committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in the Dishmuk city in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces, southwest Iran.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tragically, the suicide rate in Dishmuk is rising.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cIn the last three or four years, about 60 people, most of them women, have committed suicide. In the past month, two men and an 11-year-old girl have attempted suicide, unfortunately, all of them have died. An 11-year-old girl named Bina hanged herself in the village of Deh Ghazi Dishmuk on March 10,\u201d wrote the state-run ILNA news agency on February 14, quoting a member of Dishmuk City Council.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cOver the past few years, we have seen an increase in suicides. We have had a 4% to 5% annual increase in suicide rates. This year, we have the same statistics as last year. But what is remarkable is that we have a significant change in the range of ages among those who have attempted suicide. Suicide has increased in the last year among those under 18 and over 60,\u201d state-run Mehr news agency reported on February 7, quoting Taghi Rostamvandi, Deputy Interior Minister and Director of the Social Affairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cFrom the beginning of March to the end of November, the suicide rate has increased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year,\u201d wrote the state-run Etemad daily on January 20.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The rising number of suicides among teenagers is due to extreme poverty, which prevents them from continuing their education or having a normal life amid the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/iran-coronavirus-death-toll-in-518-cities-exceeds-230100\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Covid-19 outbreak<\/a> and the regime\u2019s inaction in this regard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe first eight months of this year were the point that high-prices, unemployment, and poverty met. Thus, thousands of hopeless people were crushed under the unbearable economic challenges, going down in a swamp of depression. So, they chose the last option first. According to psychiatrists, to understand the severity of untreated depression in Iranian society, we must increase the net number of suicides by at least 20 or 30 times to reach the real number of suicide attempts,\u201d wrote the state-run Etemad daily on January 20.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The regime wastes national wealth on terrorism and its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/inside-source-reports\/iran-s-nuclear-weapons-program\/\" rel=\"noopener\">nuclear program<\/a>. On December 27, 2020 Hassan Nasrallah, chief of Hezbollah, praised <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/27175-who-was-the-vicious-criminal-qassem-soleimani\" rel=\"noopener\">Qassem Soleimani<\/a>, Iran\u2019s eliminated terror-mastermind, for his \u201clogistical support\u201d of Hezbollah. Etemad Online, a state-run news website, quoted Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, MP from Kermanshah and member of the Majlis Security Commission, as saying: \u201cWe may have given &#36;20-30 billion to Syria.\u201d The remarks, which were published on Wednesday, were said in a Majlis session dating back in March. \u201cWhen I went to Syria, some complained that I had caused expenses, but I will say this again: We may have given &#36;20-30 billion to Syria. The money of this people was spent there,\u201d Falahatpisheh said. When Falahatpisheh was the chairman of the Security Commission, he led a parliamentary delegation to Syria, where he met with Emad Khamis, the Prime Minister of the Assad regime. The Iranian regime has been entrenched in the Syrian war since it broke out in 2011. In addition to financial support, Tehran has been sending a constant flow of weapons and armed forces to the country to prevent the overthrow of its ally Bashar al-Assad. According to the estimates made by the Iranian Resistance, the mullahs\u2019 regime may have spent up to &#36;100 billion on the Syrian war. Regarding the increase in price of gasoline, which caused mass protests across Iran in November, Falahatpisheh said, \u201cHow many economic problems do we have in the country? The increase in gasoline prices generates 2 trillion rials per day. This is the average revenue generated by the increase in gasoline prices and selling the surplus to other countries. We can distribute this 200 trillion rial to the provinces to solve their problems. This is just part of the revenue.\u201d The remarks are published at a time that the regime has lifted coronavirus quarantines and is forcing the people to go back to work, claiming that the government does not have the financial means to support continued lockdowns. The reopening of the economy has caused a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases across the country and has returned several provinces into critical conditions. \u201cIn the budget, oil revenue equals to a fourth of the share of taxes. This means that in reality, it is the people who are paying for the country\u2019s expenses. And this is a country that is sitting on a sea of oil,\u201d Falahatpisheh said. \u201cIf we consider all of this, it means that we have the necessary budget to solve the country\u2019s economic problems, that is, if the budget is not spent on other things.\u201d This MP also attacked Ali Larijani, the speaker of the Majlis, and said, \u201cThe Speaker represents the Majlis in some decision-making institutions. Larijani wasn\u2019t an MP. In fact, he represented those institutions, especially the Supreme National Security Council or the branches of power.\u201d The Supreme National Security Council decides on crucial issues. It is presided by regime president Hassan Rouhani and all its decisions are vetted by the supreme leader Ali Khamenei.\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The increasing economic pressures, coupled with social injustice, and class difference are increasing daily due to the regime&#8217;s wrong policies and corruption. People also witness how their wealth is being plundered as used for terrorism. The regime oppresses people instead of responding to their demands. Thus, many people are forced to commit suicide, which is an act of social protest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cBy examining and studying the map of the misery index in Iran, it is possible to understand the relation between inflation and unemployment with the occurrence of social protests. A small part of the social protests in the country is now in the form of violence and serial suicide. These protests could soon become like the [major Iran] protests in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/anniversary-of-2018-iran-protests-and-international-communitys-obligations\/\" rel=\"noopener\">2018<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-november-2019-uprising-and-its-amplifications\/\" rel=\"noopener\">2019<\/a> and spread throughout the country widely and violently,\u201d wrote the state-run Jahan-e Sanat on June 13, 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to the Iranian regime&rsquo;s economic and social mismanagement and destructive policies, the number of suicides among children and women in Iran is increasing.
