NCRI –\u00a0When the Iran nuclear deal was being negotiated more than two years ago, it was hoped that as well as curbing Iran\u2019s nuclear program, it would help the people of Iran and improve its behaviour in the region. However, looking back, very little has improved. The Islamic Republic is still heavily involved in conflicts across the entire Middle East.<\/p>\n
The people of Iran are still being denied the most basic of human rights and they continue to be victims of the Iranian regime. The social conditions in the country are still appalling and the same social issues such as drug addiction still exist in society.<\/p>\n
Former President Barack Obama led the negotiations with great hope that the nuclear agreement would be his legacy. However, he was so desperate to get Iran to sign the deal that he gave far too many concessions. Iran took advantage of Obama\u2019s desperation and got what it wanted.<\/p>\n
The deal never made Iran accountable for its aggression in the Middle East and it allowed for Iran\u2019s missile program to grow. It also failed to address the human rights abuses.<\/p>\n
Now that the Trump administration is in place, perhaps President Donald Trump can put his money where his mouth is and once and for all deal with Iran\u2019s belligerence.<\/p>\n
Trump has made it very clear on numerous occasions that the Iranian regime is out of control and he has vowed to remedy the situation. He has pointed out that the first victims of the Iranian regime are the people of Iran.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s hope that in whatever action Trump takes, he will ensure that the long-suffering Iranians are finally heard. They want freedom, like the freedom people in the West take for granted. They want an overthrow of the religious rule and they want to be led with tolerance and respect.<\/p>\n
At the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said in his speech: \u201cThe entire world understands that the good people of Iran want change, and, other than the vast military power of the United States, that Iran’s people are what their leaders fear the most. This is what causes the regime to restrict internet access, tear down satellite dishes, shoot unarmed student protesters, and imprison political reformers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Iran deal does nothing to stop executions, arrests, torture, etc. The Iranian regime is not being challenged over such issues, so is effective being given the green light to continue.<\/p>\n
The Iranian regime is also heavily involved in conflicts with its neighbours and again, due to the lack of international action, it is continue to meddle outside its own borders. For as long as international silence lasts, the Iranian regime will continue to be emboldened.<\/p>\n
Although it was not addressed in the nuclear agreement, President Trump must ensure that Iran\u2019s ballistic missile program does not remain unchecked. He has already spoken about the issue: \u201cWe cannot let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building dangerous missiles, and we cannot abide by an agreement if it provides for the eventual construction of a nuclear program.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
