NCRI –\u00a0There have been numerous rumours that United States President Donald Trump will decertify Iran\u2019s compliance with the nuclear deal next week. He is obliged to inform Congress by 15th October of his decision. If he does go ahead and decertify Iran, Congress will then have 60 days to decide whether the sanctions that were in place before the nuclear deal was signed are to be reimposed. This would certainly spell the end of the deal.<\/p>\n

The Iranian regime has made numerous threats about walking away from the deal and it has said it is prepared to enrich uranium at a high level faced with Trump\u2019s harsh rhetoric about Iran\u2019s belligerence.<\/p>\n

However, in the past few days<\/a>, it seems like Iran\u2019s threats were just talk because regime officials are maintaining that the country is adhering to the deal. Iran has also been trying to get European countries on its side, against the United States.<\/p>\n

Trump has called the deal \u201cone-sided\u201d and an \u201cembarrassment\u201d to the United States and it is true that the deal has many flaws. It fails to address Iran\u2019s aggression in the Middle East, its meddling in the affairs of other nations, its complete disregard of human rights at home, its ballistic missile program, and much more.<\/p>\n

So, for Iran, the deal is very beneficial. It provided the Iranian regime with billions of dollars that has allowed it to export terrorism and to fund its various militias. Although the deal calls for inspections of military sites, it is very slack on the details and nuclear inspectors can only visit sites that Iran has declared. The last thing the Iranian regime wants to do is give all these benefits up.<\/p>\n

The Obama administration, the one that led the deal, was so fearful that Iran would not sign the deal in the first place that it gave far too many concessions and did not dare address any of Iran\u2019s belligerence.<\/p>\n

However, the whole point of the deal is to block the Iranian\u2019s path to a nuclear bomb and to promote stability and peace. This has not happened. Iran continues to execute its citizens for \u201ccrimes\u201d that warrant short prison terms or fines. And political prisoners are tortured and executed for speaking out against the regime. This so-called crime is known as freedom of speech and is a human right elsewhere.<\/p>\n

The people of Iran are so repressed that it cannot be tolerated any longer. Society is on the brink of an uprising and this is what the regime fears the most. Trump has recognised that the people are the \u201cfirst victims\u201d of the regime and he is on the path to righting the wrong made by the previous administration.<\/p>\n

If the deal is to remain in place, it is absolutely essential that Trump ensures firm policies are put in place to protect and support those that need it. Not just those at home, but also those in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and all the other countries where Iran\u2019s influence is ruining lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
