The regime\u2019s sham parliamentary elections in 2020 met a national boycott.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On Tuesday, in an interview with the semi-official ILNA news agency, Mahmoud Sadeghi, a former member of the regime\u2019s Parliament, said, \u201cStatistics on people\u2019s turnout in elections are worrying; people\u2019s most important question is, what is the use of participating in elections&#8230;last year\u2019s election, we had the lowest turnout.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">He also said: \u201cIn recent weeks, Mr. Rahmani Fazli addressed a gathering of parties at the Ministry of Interior, saying that there are worrying signs that not only there is no desire to increase public participation, but polls and estimates indicate that comparing to last year, there is a decrease in public desire to participate in the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sadeghi also warned the regime\u2019s officials that \u201cit is worrying to see how we could make people hopeful,\u201d or in other words, deceive them with bogus claims of \u201cmoderation.\u201d This is not a solution to the current crisis, as people repeatedly chanted during their nationwide uprising, \u201creformists, hardliners, the game is over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Iranian regime intends to have a large turnout to legitimize its rule, mainly after its bloody crackdown of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-november-2019-uprising-and-its-amplifications\/\" rel=\"noopener\">November 2019 uprising<\/a> and killing over 1500 protesters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lyte-wrapper\" title=\"Iran Protests: Nationwide Uprising in Iran- November 2019\" style=\"width:853px;max-width:100%;margin:5px;\"><div class=\"lyMe\" id=\"WYL_R-XN2b5wZ6I\" itemprop=\"video\" itemscope itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/VideoObject\"><div><meta itemprop=\"thumbnailUrl\" content=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FR-XN2b5wZ6I%2Fhqdefault.jpg\" \/><meta itemprop=\"embedURL\" content=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R-XN2b5wZ6I\" \/><meta itemprop=\"duration\" content=\"PT4M22S\" \/><meta itemprop=\"uploadDate\" content=\"2019-12-04T19:58:54Z\" \/><\/div><div id=\"lyte_R-XN2b5wZ6I\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FR-XN2b5wZ6I%2Fhqdefault.jpg\" class=\"pL\"><div class=\"tC\"><div class=\"tT\" itemprop=\"name\">Iran Protests: Nationwide Uprising in Iran- November 2019<\/div><\/div><div class=\"play\"><\/div><div class=\"ctrl\"><div class=\"Lctrl\"><\/div><div class=\"Rctrl\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><noscript><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/R-XN2b5wZ6I\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FR-XN2b5wZ6I%2F0.jpg\" alt=\"Iran Protests: Nationwide Uprising in Iran- November 2019\" width=\"853\" height=\"460\" \/><br \/>Watch this video on YouTube<\/a><\/noscript><meta itemprop=\"description\" content=\"#IranProtests- Nationwide Uprising in #Iran-November 2019 Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: World must condemn horrific crime against humanity, take action to stop it and free all prisoners; inaction is inexcusable and the regime will construe it as a green light to continue and intensify its crimes. The number of those killed in the protests that swept across 200 cities has risen to 1,500 According to reports received by the Iranian Resistance from inside the country, the Iranian regime\u2019s State Security Force alone has recorded 1,029 deaths related to the protests.\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ali Rabie, the government spokesman, went further and said, \u201cElections are the key to the country\u2019s foreign and domestic affairs. Unfortunately, some people think that they will benefit from low turnouts in elections. This is a misconception, and as an analyst, I would say that if we have low turnout in elections, the next government with little social capital will never be able to solve problems,\u201d The official IRNA news agency quoted Rabie on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cA government with a low social trust may solve some problems in a short period, but it cannot solve all the problems. On the other hand, with low turnout in elections, external pressure would increase. High turnout in elections reduces external pressure on us and also increases social trust for change,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Parvaneh Salahshouri another former MP said, \u201cGiven the living conditions and life hardships for different sections of society, it seems that the level of participation in elections will be low. Politicians want to say \u201cthis\u201d should happen no matter what, but seemingly, there is no motivation for people to participate. With the growing public hatred toward the regime, more people, especially youth, are being attracted to Iran\u2019s main opposition group, the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/primer-the-history-the-peoples-mojahedin-organization-iran\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI\/MEK<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The so-called reformists warn the regime\u2019s officials of the MEK\u2019s role in the society and possible uprisings, as the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has made it clear that he wants to make his regime unipolar by eliminating all candidates of the rival faction during the sham parliamentary elections in February 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe rival faction should consider how we could control the rising danger of the [MEK Resistance] Units? Do they not see how the MEK is trying to recruit members from the ranks of the unemployed youth and the masses of boys and girls lost in poverty and turn each of them into an insurgent and a time bomb?\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/iran-state-run-daily-warns-factions-of-restive-society-and-opposition-mek\/\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> the state-run Mardom Salari daily March 8, 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the Iranian regime&rsquo;s sham presidential elections in June draws nearer, more officials acknowledge there will be another national boycott and warn one another.
