NCRI –\u00a0The Iranian Regime has reportedly drawn a red line on anyone discussing the events of 1988, in which 30,000 political prisoners were executed in a summer of blood on the orders of then-Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini.<\/p>\n
As such, we must not stop talking about it. We cannot forget or allow others to forget about the massacre that wiped out tens of thousands of people in just a few short months for no other reason than supporting the People\u2019s Mojahedin of Iran\/Mujahedin-e Khalq (PMOI\/MEK).<\/p>\n
The Regime has long attempted to hide their guilt- refusing to admit that the massacre happened, hiding the bodies in unmarked mass graves, doing construction work on the sites of mass graves to prevent the international community discovering the bodies.<\/p>\n
However, there are many who want to ensure that the Regime is not allowed to sweep this massacre under the rug; from those who release audio evidence of key mullahs on a Death Commission admitting to the massacre to those who keep extensive documented evidence and even those who document the current state of human rights and political prisoners in Iran. If the Regime catches them, they are likely to face the same fate as those who they are trying to obtain justice for.<\/p>\n
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an umbrella group of Iranian dissidents, is concerned with the massive human rights abuses of the Regime \u2013particularly against those who seek an end to the theocracy.<\/p>\n
They know that the only way to improve the situation is through regime change but this will require help for Western human rights defenders. In some ways this has already started, thanks to US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley but it needs to go further.<\/p>\n
How to punish the Regime for human rights abuses:<\/p>\n
\u2022 The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights must conduct an inquiry into the 1988 massacre<\/p>\n
\u2022 Those responsible for the 1988 massacre must be put on trial at the International Criminal Court<\/p>\n
\u2022 The Donald Trump administration (as well as the international community) must get tough on current human rights abuses in Iran by sanctions and increasing the UN Mission\u2019s Economic and Social Affairs Section, which oversees human rights issues.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The international community must support the Iranian Resistance forces who seek to bring human rights to Iran.<\/p>\n
