Their appeal was motivated by unresolved issues related to criminal activities perpetrated by the Iranian regime in recent years, both at home and abroad. The statement implied that in absence of more assertive action by the EU and its allies, there remains an unacceptably high risk of such activities recurring.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The perception of Western inaction was underscored by the statement\u2019s reference to an Amnesty International report that was published a full year beforehand. That report identified \u201cat least 23 children killed by security forces\u201d during protests that took place over several days in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-november-2019-uprising-and-its-amplifications\/\" rel=\"noopener\">November 2019<\/a>. The full death toll from that uprising was<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-protests\/27081-over-1-500-killed-in-the-iranian-people-s-nationwide-uprising-names-of-504-martyrs-released\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0above\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1,500, with most casualties being caused by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps after it opened fire on crowds using live ammunition.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A subsequent Amnesty International report noted that as of September 2020, participants in those protests were still being systematically tortured in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the regime\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0detention facilities. The number of those killed in the protests that swept across 200 cities has risen to 1,500 According to reports received by the Iranian Resistance from inside the country, the Iranian regime\u2019s State Security Force alone has recorded 1,029 deaths related to the protests.\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The severity of Tehran\u2019s response was no doubt influenced by the fact that the November 2019 uprising was not the first of its kind. A previous uprising had begun with economic protests in the final days of 2017, but as these spread to more than 100 localities they also took on a broader political message, embodied in chants such as \u201cdeath to the dictator.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei soon attributed these calls for his ouster to the organizing efforts of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-iranian-opposition-pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(PMOI\/MEK)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Khamenei\u2019s conclusion was reinforced by a noticeable public response in Iran to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the NCRI\u2019s president-elect <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Mrs.<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Maryam Rajavi\u2019s call for a \u201cyear full of uprisings\u201d in the wake of the initial, nationwide movement. Tehran\u2019s concern over that response was evident not just from the subsequent growth in its repression of domestic dissent, but also from its efforts to undermine the foreign support structure for the Iranian Resistance.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This phenomenon was given at least as much emphasis as Tehran\u2019s domestic human rights abuses in the statement from European lawmakers. They noted that \u201cthe<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Iranian ambassador and three diplomats were expelled from Albania<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as a result of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0their connection to a March 2018 terror plot that targeted Mrs. Rajavi\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and the MEK members, along with political dignitaries<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0at a self-built community near Tirana known as Ashraf 3. The statement then went on to say that \u201cthree other diplomats were expelled from France and the Netherlands\u201d after additional terrorist plots were uncovered that same year.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The worst of these was directed against a gathering organized by the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NCRI\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">j<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ust outside<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of Pari<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s. The June 2018 terror plot was masterminded by a high-ranking diplomat<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-terrorist<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/guilty-verdict-for-iran-regimes-terrorist-isnt-enough-to-eliminate-threats-to-europe\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Assadollah Assadi<\/a>. Serving at the time as the third counsellor at the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regime\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0embassy in Vienna, Assadi was able to smuggle explosives from Iran into Europe using a diplomatic pouch that he carried onto a commercial flight. The bomb plot intended to target an annual Iranian opposition rally held in Villepinte, north of Paris, where over 100,000 Iranian dissidents gathered each year. The decision to green-light this terror attack, which could have been one of the largest terrorist attacks in Europe\u2019s history, traces back to the most senior officials of Iran\u2019s regime, according to international news media. On January 9, 2018, Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said the opposition People&#039;s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) were behind Iran&#039;s Dec. 2017-Jan. 2018 protests. From this day forward the regime\u2019s launched plans to carry its largest-ever terror plot on European soil, with the signatures of Khamenei, Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi. The target was the annual Iranian opposition gathering near Paris where over 100,000 people, along with hundreds of political dignitaries, take part. NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi is the keynote speaker at these events. This conference is an event that Zarif describes as a very hostile measure. Senior Iranian regime officials allocated all their assets for this terrorist plot, assigned to their Vienna-based diplomat by the name of Assadollah Assadi. Assadi is a career Intelligence Ministry agent and an expert in explosives. Following a year of preparations, on June 20, 2018, exactly ten days prior to the NCRI\u2019s 2018 gathering in Villepinte near Paris, Assadi was summoned to Tehran and on June 22 he personally transferred the explosive device in his luggage on an Austrian Airbus passenger plane, flight number OS872, to Vienna. The bomb contained 500 grams of TATP explosives with a remote control detonation mechanism. On June 28, Assadi traveled to Luxembourg where he delivered the bomb to two terrorist agents, Nasimeh Na&#039;ami and Amir Saadouni, who was missioned to take the package to the gathering site. Assadi was in close contact with these two agents for years and regularly met with them in various European countries while sending them to Iran for training whenever necessary. The two terrorist agents, while transferring the bomb in their vehicle to Paris and the gathering site, were arrested prior to noon on June 29 in Belgium. On the afternoon of the same day, Mehrdad Arefani, a third terrorist, was arrested at the gathering site in Villepinte, just north of Paris. Assadi himself was arrested on the afternoon of the next day, The truth is that Asadollah Assadi is a senior ranking MOIS member working under the cover of a diplomat. Both of his posts as an intelligence official and diplomat indicate that he is part of a military\/administrative chain of command, making both the MOIS and Foreign Ministry responsible for his measures. This hierarchy begins with his two superiors in both the MOIS and Foreign Ministry and linked to both ministers directly. These two ministers are under the authority of the regime\u2019s President. The mullahs\u2019 leader is also the highest official responsible in this regime. Furthermore, the MOIS is specifically and directly under the supervision of Khamenei himself and the foreign minister also reports directly to him. This indicates very well that the appeasement policy, alongside neglecting the regime\u2019s terrorist crimes and espionage, have resulted in the mullahs taking on such unprecedented crimes despite the high risks. Its diplomat terrorists and senior officials count on appeasement on one hand and taking advantage of nuclear talks with the Europeans on the other, providing the regime with a sense of immunity. NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi said the following during an online conference on October 22 regarding the case of Assadollah Assadi: 1. European countries must set aside all political considerations in this case. The regime\u2019s leaders must be prosecuted and they must face justice. This is a necessary and a preventive measure against terrorism under the name of Islam with the clerical regime as its exporter and central banker. 2. Khamenei and Rouhani took a great risk by sending a diplomat to carry out the bombing and slaughter. The reason is that they are extremely vulnerable in the face of the people\u2019s uprisings, the spread of the Resistance\u2019s influence, and the overthrow of their regime. 3. The policy of appeasement has greatly emboldened the regime over the past 40 years. To the extent that their diplomat, who is arrested, makes threats of more terrorist operations if convicted, even from inside prison. https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/item\/maryam-rajavi-eu-terrorism-islam-eu-obligations-brussels\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On February 4, 2021, after two and a half years of investigations and trial, the Belgian judiciary sentenced Assadi to 20 years in prison and his three accomplices between 15 to 18 years in prison<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u201d the MEP\u2019s statement <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/assadollah-assadi-trial-appeal-revoked-20210505\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a>. The court case also established that this team of operatives was not acting upon its own initiative but had been directed by authorities high within the Iranian regime. The NCRI specifically\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">revealed and attributed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the planning to the Supreme National Security Council, an entity that facilitates foreign policy coordination among the supreme leader, the president, and other leading figures spanning all branches of the Iranian <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regime<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">particular note<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in this coordination is the role of the Foreign Ministry, which could not have been unaware of Assadi\u2019s activities. This point was reiterated in the MEP\u2019s statement, which described the Belgian trial as having \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">left no doubt about the Irania<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n regime\u2019s terrorist objectives\u201d or the role that its embassies and diplomats play in pursuing those objectives.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For this reason, the statement places special emphasis on diplomatic relations between\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tehran<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and the European Union, arguing that they should be promptly \u201cdowngraded<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u201d pending verifiable commitments from Tehran regarding the end of terrorist activity and the dismantling of terrorist networks in the West. In absence of such commitments, the statement adds,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the regime\u2019s diplomatic<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0missions across Europe should be shuttered in their entirety.<\/span><span diplomatic, with pressure in that area being directed toward a comprehensive reform in the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">policies and behavior.\u00a0Thus\u00a0their urge their colleagues in Western government and industry to \u201cc<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ondition any economic or trade relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran on the improvement of the human rights situation in Iran, an end to the regime&#8217;s terrorism on European soil, an end to its illegal nuclear and missile programs, and an end to its war-mongering in the region<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u201d<\/span><span
