He is currently a member of the party&#8217;s central council. He is also a member of the BARAN Foundation headed by Mohammad Khatami. He was also a member of Mir-Hossein Mousavi&#8217;s presidential campaign in the 2009 presidential election and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani&#8217;s campaign manager in the 2013 presidential election.<br \/>\nDespite boasting a \u201cReformist\u201d badge, Jahangiri was close friends with the eliminated Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani. The two worked for hand in glove during Jahangiri\u2019s term in the construction Jihad in Kerman province and Soleimani\u2019s days there as part of the Kerman Revolutionary Guards.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Corruption-in-All-Three-Branches-of-the-Iran-Government\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Corruption-in-All-Three-Branches-of-the-Iran-Government.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"549\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jahangiri is a part of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/iran-eshagh-jahangiri-economy-2018-protests-desctructive-policies\" rel=\"noopener\">Iranian regime\u2019s corrupt financial oligarchy<\/a>. Apart from two brothers who were killed during the Iran-Iraq war serving the IRGC, his two other brothers are also involved in regime financial and political agencies. His younger brother, Mehdi Jahangiri, was the head of the Tourism Finance Group and the deputy head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, before his arrest in October 2017 and later conviction on charges of currency smuggling. A journalist named Fariborz Kalantari attempting to report on the Jahangiri family\u2019s corruption was sentenced to three years in prison, 74 lashes, and fines.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s regime will hold its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/2021-iran-presidential-election-iran-regime-sham-election-ncr-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">sham presidential elections on June 18<\/a>. While many try to portray the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-sham-election-candidates-implicated-in-crimes-against-humanity-war-crimes-terrorism-and-plunder\/\" rel=\"noopener\">mullahs\u2019 sham elections<\/a> as a sign of the regime\u2019s democracy, it is necessary to take an in-depth look at the procedures and rules of the so-called elections in the regime<br \/>\nArticle 115 of the regime\u2019s Constitution and Article 35 of the election law set the threshold for Presidential candidates to Muslim males, faithful to the \u201cIslamic Republic\u201d, and with practical belief and commitment to the principle of the velayat-e faqih (absolute clerical rule). The unelected and handpicked Guardian Council recently added further exclusions in a tactical adjustment to further disqualify and curtail potentially troublesome candidates from the self-proclaimed \u201cReformist\u201d camp in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian Council has 12 members, six clerics, and six jurists. Khamenei appoints the six clerics, and the Judiciary Chief, whom Khamenei appoints, picks the six jurists.
