On Monday, many Iranians took to the streets to make their voices heard. Metro workers, janitors, Iran Air airline workers, National Iranian Oil Company workers, healthcare workers, teachers, medical workers and retired employees in Tehran, as well as scholars and educational staff from different universities in Tabriz and Ahvaz, truck drivers in Mashhad, citizens of Qom, teachers in Rafsanjan, retirees in Karaj and Shiraz, oil and gas engineers in Bushehr, teachers in Zarand, Janitors in Qazvin, teachers in Zabol, local residents of Lordegan and Dehdez, and retired steel industry workers in Isfahan, were reported to have taken part in rallies and demonstrations against the regime and its local authorities. The demonstrators are protesting discrimination in salaries and poor working conditions. These protests, which have been ongoing in other provinces as well, started after the regime\u2019s administrative court of justice ruled to reduce the salaries of many workers. According to a May 15 report by the state-run IMNA news agency, janitors and utility workers receive 25-30 million rials per month, which given the current state of inflation and skyrocketing prices, is not much. According to the Hengaw Organization, the journalist, identified as Kaveh Najaf Mehdipour, was detained on May 18 on the order of Judge Sohrabizadeh Malekshahi, the head of the Darreh Shahr Revolutionary Court. The two men were detained for drinking alcohol on May 20 and were taken to the Valad Abad Police Station in Alborz Province near Tehran. The report said Ghobad Rezaie was shot above his knee four times while Karimi was shot twice above his right knee after a scuffle broke out. The two men were taken to a hospital in Karaj with cuffed, wounded legs.
