All developments so far indicate that the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei aims to pull <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/ebrahim-raisi-TheMassMurderer-06082021.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">Ebrahim<\/a> Raisi out of the ballot box.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/2021\/05\/15\/death-commission-judge-ebrahim-raisi-nominated-for-iran-presidential-election\/\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> to Iran Human Rights Monitor reports, since Raisi became the regime\u2019s Judiciary Chief, \u201cMore than 620 executions were carried out in Iran.\u201d During Raisi\u2019s tenure as Iran\u2019s Judiciary Chief, at least 22 political prisoners were hanged, including Iran\u2019s wrestling champion Navid\u00a0Afkari. These executions were carried out despite international outcries. In addition, several political prisoners died due to harsh prison conditions and the authorities\u2019 refusal to help those diagnosed with various diseases.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a shocking report published by Amnesty International, \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/documents\/mde13\/2891\/2020\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Trampling Humanity\u201d<\/a> detainees of the Iran protests in 2019 have been systematically subjected to vicious tortures and received lengthy prison sentences, with Raisi being the Judiciary Chief.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yet, Raisi\u2019s dark record of human rights violations dates to the early 1980s.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/publications\/special-reports\/iran-who-is-ebrahim-raisi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Born<\/a> in 1959 in the Noghan neighborhood in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi, Raisi joined the regime\u2019s ranks in the early 1980s. He was Ruhollah Khomeini\u2019s representative in Masjed-e-Soleiman to \u201cdeal with the unrests,\u201d as state media have described it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A year later, after returning from the crackdown on Masjed Soleiman, Raisi was sent to the Karaj Prosecutor\u2019s Office as a judge while he was just 19 years old. His job there was basically to interrogate detainees. At the age of 20, the then Revolutionary Prosecutor, the criminal cleric Ali\u00a0Qoddusi, appointed Ebrahim Raisi as the Karaj Prosecutor. After a few months and countless crimes in Karaj, Ebrahim Raisi was appointed as the Prosecutor of Hamedan while simultaneously retaining his position in Karaj. He held several other top positions before playing a major role in the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/20932-the-1988-massacre-in-iran\" rel=\"noopener\">1988 massacre<\/a> of political prisoners.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 1988, the Iranian regime summarily and extra-judicially executed over 30,000 political prisoners across Iran, mainly members and supports of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-iranian-opposition-pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener\">(PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>. The massacre was carried out based on a fatwa\u00a0by\u00a0Khomeini. Khomeini assigned the fates of those prisoners already sentenced to specific terms, who held fast to their beliefs, to three individuals who comprised what came to be known as the \u201cdeath committee\u201d in Tehran and similar committees in the provincial capitals.\u00a0 Raisi was one of the four members of Tehran\u2019s death commission. However, Raisi\u2019s role in the 1988 massacre was not limited to Tehran.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIn fact, [Khomeini] was the hero of the struggle against the [MEK]. He knew them well. They should not be provided any opportunity at all,\u201d Raisi defended the 1988 massacre on June 20, 2020.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Raisi\u2019s role in ongoing human rights violations and his remarks show he has not only repented what he did in 1988. In fact, he is \u201cproud\u201d of committing the regime\u2019s worst crime.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since Khamenei paved the way for Raisi to become the regime\u2019s next president more Iranians express their hatred toward Raisi. The call\u00a0for boycotting the regime\u2019s sham election has been amplified by people and victims of the regime due to the activities of the MEK\u2019s Resistance Units in exposing Raisi\u2019s crime and popularizing the boycott campaign. During the recent so-called \u201cpresidential debate,\u201d Raisi acknowledged the MEK\u2019s success in showing his true face to the Iranian people. \u201cDon\u2019t you see how the system\u2019s opponents are attacking me? Don\u2019t you see the number of accusations against me on the internet?\u201d he said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Khamenei knows that by selecting Raisi, he would face more pressure from both the international community and Iran\u2019s society due to Raisi\u2019s notorious record of human rights violations. Yet, Khamenei has opted to select Raisi to consolidate power in the regime through oppression to face the restive society and the growing influence of the MEK.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-219239\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yet, increasing oppression would only intensify the public\u2019s hatred toward the regime.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While Iranians are willing to boycott the regime\u2019s sham election, the international community should also stand by the universal human rights standards and condemn Raisi and the regime.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In September, seven United Nations Special Rapporteurs underlined that the 1988 massacre \u201cmay amount to crimes against humanity.\u201d Raisi is blacklisted for human rights violations. Therefore, the international community\u00a0has the opportunity to\u00a0end the regime\u2019s human rights violations by holding Raisi and other perpetrators of human rights violations to account.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Iran&rsquo;s sham presidential election will be held on June 18.
