This nationwide boycott underlined the regime\u2019s illegitimacy in Iran.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to reports tallied by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-iranian-opposition-pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener\">(PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>\u00a0at the end of the clerical regime\u2019s election masquerade, less than 10 percent of the eligible voters cast their vote in the sham presidential election.\u00a0Based on\u00a0reports of 1,200 journalists and\u00a03,500 video clips from\u00a0400\u00a0cities obtained by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-election-2021-reports-by-simay-e-azadi-reporters-show-a-sparse-turnout\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Simay-e Azadi,<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0opposition TV network, the polling stations across Iran were mostly empty and witnessed a low turnout.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite the regime\u2019s efforts, people refused to participate in the elections. On Wednesday, he acknowledged that the \u201cpoor segments of the society are discouraged and dissatisfied and don\u2019t want to vote in the elections.\u201d He also tried to blame the \u201cenemy\u201d for the forecasted low voter turnout and attacked the rival faction. \u201cSome from inside the establishment are trying to dissuade the people. This is wrong. Khamenei already knew people would boycott the election farce. The MEK started this campaign in Iran in early April. In April, The Resistance Units carried out anti-regime activities in over 250 places in 27 provinces.
