The\u00a0sham\u00a0election ended as most experts anticipated it would: with a resounding victory for\u00a0the regime\u2019s\u00a0Supreme Leader,\u00a0Ali Khamenei\u2019s favored candidate, but also with a wildly successful boycott of the polls, organized in large part by\u00a0Iran\u2019s\u00a0main\u00a0opposition, the\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran\u00a0(PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With last week\u2019s \u201cselection<\/a>\u201d of its next president, Ebrahim Raisi,<\/a> the Iranian regime brought an end to a phenomenon that countless Iranians had condemned in previous years as a power-sharing \u201cgame\u201d involving two political factions with no differences in political ideology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Previously, the\u00a0MEK\u00a0played\u00a0a leading role in the nationwide uprisings<\/a> of January 2018 and November 2019, which featured far-reaching chants of anti-government slogans including, \u201cHardliners, reformists: the game is over.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
