NCRI –\u00a0US Senators Todd Young (R-IN) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) took charge of a letter that was sent to President Donald Trump. They called for Trump to consider further sanctions on Iran given its ongoing ballistic missile program.<\/p>\n
They also highlighted that Iran\u2019s actions represent a serious threat to the national security of the United States and to the American troops that have been deployed abroad. Also, the Iran threat endangers American interests and allies.<\/p>\n
In recent months, President Trump has been keen to curb the Iran threat. He has given Europe one last chance to fixed the flawed nuclear deal, and if his conditions are not met, he will pull the United States out of the deal.<\/p>\n
Unlike the previous administration, the current one is aware that the Iran threat endangers more than just its immediate neighbours.<\/p>\n
The senators encouraged Trump to keep pressuring Iran. \u201cAs many serious and urgent threats compete for attention, we believe it is important to remain focused on the growing threat that Iran\u2019s ballistic missile program represents. We applaud your administration\u2019s recent actions with respect to Iran\u2019s ballistic missile program. We are eager to work with the administration to take additional steps to better protect the United States and our allies against this threat.\u201d<\/p>\n
The senators mentioned that the Iranian regime violates the human rights of the people of Iran on a daily basis and it plunders the nation\u2019s wealth on terrorism and proxy groups and militias. They also mentioned that the Iranian regime\u2019s support for the Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad\u2019s regime is unacceptable. \u201cAs the world\u2019s worst state sponsor of terrorism, Iran actively supports terrorist groups like Hezbollah and props up the murderous Assad regime that uses gas to slaughter the Syrian people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The senators have said that they support the administration\u2019s decision earlier this month to sanction five Iranian entities that support Iran\u2019s ballistic missile program but have urged it to go even further and designate \u201call remaining agents, affiliates, and subsidiaries associated with the designated entities and their parent companies\u201d using authorities under Executive Order 13382. Furthermore, they advised that more \u201crobust\u201d sanctions are imposed. \u201cThis includes designating or otherwise sanctioning the foreign and domestic supply chains associated with Iran\u2019s ballistic missile programs. We encourage the administration to work with allies and partners to make these sanctions multilateral where possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The senators also pointed out that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has control over Iran\u2019s ballistic missile inventory and the IRGC\u2019s Aerospace Force (IRGC-AF) manages the upkeep, testing, maintenance and transfer of weapons and it is therefore necessary that anyone providing assistance should also be sanctioned. \u201cThis material support can be as high-tech as those engaged in warhead engineering for Iran\u2019s missiles, or as low-tech as fixing the transporter-erector launchers (TELs) that provide Iran\u2019s missile force with mobility.\u201d<\/p>\n
The letter was also signed by Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Dean Heller (R-Nev.), David Perdue (R-Ga.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and James Risch (R-Idaho).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
