On Tuesday, Ebrahim<\/a> Raisi was sworn in as the regime\u2019s new president, and the term of the mullahs\u2019 president Hassan Rouhani officially ended.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raisi rose to power in a theocratic regime and through an undemocratic process. While the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader officially recognized Raisi and Iran\u2019s new president, he had chosen him long before the sham election<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raisi is known in Iran and around the globe for his dark record of human rights violations. His inauguration comes days after the Iranian regime executed 18 individuals.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday<\/a> morning, the clerical regime executed three prisoners named\u00a0Sepehr\u00a0Abbasnejad\u00a0and\u00a0Eskander\u00a0Zare, and\u00a0Hamzeh\u00a0Rezaei in Urmia Prison.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Sunday, Mohammad Ali Sharifi was hanged in\u00a0Jiroft\u00a0Prison after serving 16 years in prison. On the same day, two other prisoners, Hassan, 57, and Ali, 61, were executed in Mashhad Prison.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rising trend of executions in Iran is not limited to the recent days. Since Raisi became the regime\u2019s Judiciary chief in 2019, the regime\u2019s human rights violations entered a new level. During the major Iran protests in November 2019<\/a>, in addition to killing over 1500 protesters, the regime arrested nearly 12,000 protesters.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The detained protesters were subjected to inhumane tortures and received lengthy prison sentences. In an exclusive report titled \u201cTrampling Humanity,\u201d<\/a> Amnesty International revealed horrific details of mistreatments in the regime\u2019s prisons.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cpolice, intelligence, and security agents and some prison officials used widespread torture and other ill-treatment against men, women, and children, both during arrest and later in detention centers and prisons across the country. Amnesty International found that detainees were most at risk of torture and other ill-treatment in interrogations during their initial period of detention, in conditions amounting to enforced disappearance,\u201d the Amnesty\u2019s report read in part.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raisi, as the regime\u2019s judiciary chief, oversaw this entire crackdown. In recent years, the ongoing human rights violations in Iran and Raisi\u2019s presidency indicate systematic impunity that regime officials enjoy. On June 19, following the regime\u2019s announcement that Raisi has become the president, Amnesty International\u2019s Secretary General Agn\u00e8s\u00a0Callamard\u00a0underlined that his presidency \u201cis a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The outcome of #Iran<\/a> "election" was predictable. But nevertheless, that #EbrahimRaisi<\/a> has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity of murder, enforced disappearance and torture, is a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran<\/p>\n
