{"id":24429,"date":"2018-03-03T15:16:14","date_gmt":"2018-03-03T15:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/24429-iran-regime-s-dismal-human-rights-record-highlighted-by-un-secretary-general"},"modified":"2024-02-09T14:32:46","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T13:32:46","slug":"iran-regime-s-dismal-human-rights-record-highlighted-by-un-secretary-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iran-regime-s-dismal-human-rights-record-highlighted-by-un-secretary-general\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a0Iran Regime&#8217;s Dismal Human Rights Record Highlighted by UN Secretary General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The UN Secretary General\u2019s report on human rights in Iran was published, including his concern over the harassment of families of victims of the 1988 mass executions for their quest to uncover the truth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres submitted the report on February 26 to the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council, currently meeting in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>The report noted that the families of the victims of the 1988 mass killings in Iran continue to face harassment in their quest to find out the truth, and that human rights defenders working on their behalf face harassment, intimidation and prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>The report also emphasized the climate of fear cultivated in Iran by the Judiciary and the government\u2019s various security apparatus. It noted violation of basic freedoms, including freedom of opinion, expression, and peaceful assembly, as well as prosecutions of individuals for the peaceful exercise of these freedoms on national security related charges.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Guterres\u2019 report also criticized the Iranian regime\u2019s extensive use of the death penalty, especially for juvenile offenders; the use of coerce confessions; cruel and inhuman punishment; systematic discrimination against women and girls; the repression of demonstrations in December2017\/January2018; the treatment of ethnic and religious communities;
