Most of the 30,000 victims of the massacre were members and supporters of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\/\" rel=\"noopener\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/a> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/primer-the-history-the-peoples-mojahedin-organization-iran\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI\/MEK<\/a>).<br \/>\nHundreds of the family members of the Iranian regime\u2019s victims participated in this rally, calling for justice for their loved ones.<br \/>\nMrs. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of NCRI, send a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/iranians-rally-and-demonstration-in-stockholm\/\" rel=\"noopener\">message<\/a> to the demonstration.<br \/>\n\u201cThe world hears the calls for justice for the victims of the 1988 massacre in your demonstration. For 30,000 resistant and steadfast heroes, more than 90% of whom were members of the PMOI\/MEK. They laid down their lives for freedom and walked to the gallows while shouting the name of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/massoud-rajavi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Massoud Rajavi<\/a>,&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Your rally outside the Court of Stockholm is the Iranian people\u2019s remarkable victory over the clerical regime that wanted to use this court as a tool to condemn the Call-for-Justice Movement.\u201d Mrs. Rajavi said, adding,<br \/>\n\u201cIt is imperative, particularly for the European governments, to revise their policy of turning a blind eye on the largest massacre of political prisoners since World War II. As it was recently stated in the letter by a group of members of the European Parliament to the E.U. foreign policy chief, appeasing and placating the Iranian regime \u2018contradicts European commitments to uphold and stand up for human rights.\u2019<br \/>\nEurope and the world, in general, must take steps to fulfill the Iranian people\u2019s desire for international prosecution of Ali Khamenei and Ebrahim Raisi for genocide and crimes against humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Message to the Iranians\u2019 rally and demonstration in Stockholm \u2013 call for a decisive policy on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/1988Massacre?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#1988Massacre<\/a>: genocide and a crime against humanity \u2013 International tribunal to prosecute the clerical regime\u2019s leaders, particularly Khamenei and Raisi <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jo6XjjmMSL\">pic.twitter.com\/jo6XjjmMSL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1429791603590377477?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 23, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nSeveral human rights defenders also attended this event. One of the speakers of this event was Ms. Ingrid Betancourt, a former Colombian presidential candidate.<br \/>\nMs. Betancourt praised Sweden for holding one of the 1988 massacre\u2019s henchmen to account. \u201cSweden has embodied the good soul of humanity and represents the good of us. Knowing they are embracing our cause and activating the international community\u2019s responsibility for accountability,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nWhile referring to Ruhollah Khomeini\u2019s fatwa in 1988, Ms. Betancourt said: \u201cThis massacre started with a fatwa that condemned victims because they did not adhere to the regime\u2019s political insanity. They were buried in mass graves. The death commission across Iran did this massacre.\u201d<br \/>\nFollowing Khomeini\u2019s fatwa, the death commissions were formed across Iran, deciding the fate of the political prisoners in few moments. He said: \u201cWe all know, those who fail to remember history are condemned to repeat. We must establish a permanent war crime tribunal to prosecute these crimes. If we fail to prosecute crimes and acknowledge them, we put our sons and daughters at risk. We remember the 1988 massacre because those who did it, like the [regime\u2019s] new president Ebrahim Raisi should be held accountable for committing those atrocities. We must initiate international investigations and prosecute these criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.us4.list-manage.com\/subscribe\/post?u=90c3ad44f96a18fb1fe0cf2e6&amp;id=b561586c73\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nKimmo Sasi, the ex-Finland\u2019s Minister of Foreign Trade, was the next speaker at the event. \u201cThe 1988 massacre was one of the darkest moments in Iran\u2019s history. Thirty thousand political prisoners were murdered,\u201d he underlined.<br \/>\nMr. Sasi underlined that Nouri\u2019s trial in Sweden is \u201cthe first step of a process in Europe. It means all those involved in the 1988 massacre should be held accountable, and I hope Raisi be brought to court. I call on the E.U. to take a new attitude toward Iran, put sanctions, bring those accused of human rights to courts of justice. \u201c<br \/>\nProtesters also marched on the streets of Stockholm, calling on the international community to end decades of silence over the 1988 massacre and hold the perpetrators to account.
