Iran Uprising \u2013No.148 \u2013Workers\u2019 Day<\/p>\n

<\/em><\/strong>On Tuesday, May 1, thousands of workers, retirees, and other deprived people gathered and marched in front of the Majlis on the occasion of the International Workers\u2019 Day<\/a> and in protest of their dire livelihood. They chanted: \u201cDetained workers should be released\u201d; \u201cBread, housing and freedom is our absolute right\u201d; \u201cAstronomical salaries and public misery\u201d; \u201cSocial security is our absolute right\u201d; \u201cWorker, teacher, student; United, United\u201d.<\/p>\n

The workers carried placards which read: \u201cWorkers have no food to eat yet\u201d; \u201ctemporary contract is the worker\u2019s slavery\u201d. One of the workers carried a big placard which said, \u201cOh, the billionaire minister! I have not bought meat for forty months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Repressive forces attacked the workers\u2019 rally in front of the Majlis and a number of the protesters were arrested.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a large crowd of workers rallied towards the regime’s \u2018Worker\u2019s House\u2019 in Tehran to express their protest by chanting \u201cDeath to the oppressor, hail to the workers\u201d. One of the banners carried by the workers said, \u201cSocial security is the worker\u2019s absolute right\u201d; \u201cwe warn the Minister of Health to abandon the workers\u2019 fund- the workers and retirees of Pakdasht.\u201d<\/p>\n

Workers, shopkeepers and merchants of Baneh continued their strike for the 17th day in protest of blocking border crossings and increasing customs tariffs.<\/p>\n

The workers and the people of Saghez staged their gathering on the International Workers\u2019 Day at Chami Vally Khan Square which was attacked by the repressive forces and local mercenaries. The attack led to clashes. A number of protesters were arrested.<\/p>\n

In Marivan, the workers gathered on the occasion of the International Workers\u2019 Day at Shabrang Square.<\/p>\n

In Isfahan, the retired workers of Isfahan Steel Company gathered outside the Pension Fund building to protest against their dire livelihood conditions and the regime\u2019s failure to address their problems.<\/p>\n

In order to prevent the Workers\u2019 Day demonstration in Sanandaj, the regime\u2019s intelligence service summoned a number of activists on April 30 and warned them to not hold the Workers\u2019 Day ceremony.<\/p>\n
