“Our party supports your resistance and all those who fight for liberty and democracy”, said party leader Siv Jensen upon greeting Mrs. Rajavi. “We are extremely concerned about the human rights situation in Iran and the mullahs’ nuclear program”, she added.<\/p>\n
Before beginning her speech, Mrs. Rajavi presented the group with a book containing the list of names and particulars of 20,000 members and supporters of the People’s Mojahedin who had been slain at the hands of the mullahs’ regime. This is the Resistance’s “most precious” document, she noted. She thanked the parliamentary deputies for their support and paid tribute to their courageous stand.<\/p>\n
The solution to the Iranian problem is democratic change, Mrs. Rajavi said. Unfortunately, the mullahs took advantage of the West’s appeasement policy to restrain the Resistance which is the main threat to their existence. Consequently, the only driving force of change in Iran has been enchained and the world has deprived itself of the most important factor to neutralize this regime.<\/p>\n
What is happening in Ashraf City in Iraq, she added, is a humanitarian issue. 3,500 members of the Resistance are in Ashraf and the mullahs want to cancel the refugee status they have been enjoying for twenty years, as well as their status as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, in order to eliminate them. <\/p>\n
A clear example of the religious terrorist dictatorship’s violations of international law can be seen regarding Ashraf City. Yet the West remains silent in the face of these plots.<\/p>\n
The Iranian Resistance highly influences the course of events in Iran. The People’s Mojahedin Organization is the biggest political force and the main component of the Nation Council of Resistance. The People’s Mojahedin enjoy the trust and large support of the population and are the center of the nation’s hope. Consequently, even if the residents of Ashraf do not have any weapons and are the victims of severe restrictions, the mullahs still consider them as the main threat and seek to eliminate them by all means.<\/p>\n
To face the threat of the Iranian theocracy and of the serious consequences of its policy in the region, it is necessary to take the following steps:<\/p>\n
1- The UN Security Council must impose a diplomatic, arms, technology and oil embargo against the mullahs’ regime. After four years of negotiations, Europe’s position compels it to apply this embargo with firmness.<\/p>\n
2- The mullahs have to be expelled from Iraq and the Middle East. The progress of the mullahs in Iraq is a most dangerous phenomenon for the region and the world.<\/p>\n
3- Constraints upon the Iranian Resistance have to cease. This is the only effective way of confronting the mullahs. <\/p>\n
4- I call on all governments and all those who feel concerned and wish to replace fundamentalism, terrorism and war with democracy, peace and tranquility to form a united front against the mullahs’ fundamentalist front.<\/p>\n
Following Mrs. Rajavi’s speech, the President of the Progress Party took the floor and said she was very glad to have listened to such an eloquent speech on the situation in the Middle East. We think, like you, that everything has to be done to help democratic forces in Iran, she stated. “It is Norway’s duty to help others to obtain the democracy we have been enjoying in our country.”<\/p>\n
Lord Russell-Johnston, British Peer and former chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, told the party meeting, “I have known the Iranian Resistance very well for many years. And I have studied it with great care.” Recounting the crimes committed in Iran by the religious dictatorship, Lord Russell-Johnston said he had found in Maryam Rajavi and her movement a democratic alternative deeply attached to liberty and loyal to its principles and ideals.<\/p>\n
Carl Hagen, Vice-President of the Norwegian Parliament and historic leader of the Progress Party, said he was very glad that Mrs. Rajavi had attended the meeting and stressed that it was necessary to support the Resistance.<\/p>\n
Prior to the party debate, Mrs. Jansen expressed her best wishes for the victory of the NCRI, stressing that it was very important for her party to take all possible political and diplomatic steps to help peoples such as the Iranian people in their fight for liberty and democracy. <\/p>\n
