To the point that they\u2019re found in much greater quantities than that of the local products.<\/p>\n<p>Mehdi Mir Mohammadi, a 43-year old craftsman from Isfahan who has been doing Minakari for nearly 20 years now, comments in this regard: \u201cIsfahan is Iran\u2019s capital of art because it produces more than 70% of the country\u2019s handicrafts; so, why are Chinese goods being sold here instead?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He adds: \u201cwe have made many complaints; but they\u2019re just falling on deaf ears\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The regime\u2019s TV also talks about Lalejin, a city in Hamadan province, which is sometimes referred to as Iran\u2019s capital of pottery: \u201cIn Lalehjin, 4000 people are working in the industry of pottery and ceramics; a significant portion of their products are exported to various countries every year; but Chinese ceramics are imported into the country simultaneously\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst Iran ranks 3rd in its production of handicrafts, it ranks 39th in terms of their sales.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s newsagency, ISNA, reports on the \u201cskyrocketing imports of rugs and handicrafts\u201d (5th March 2018): \u201cthe industry has seen the greatest imports of rugs and handicrafts over the past 8 months, with a whopping 357% increase since last year\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"enamelling-3\" class=\" size-full wp-image-51453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/06\/enamelling-3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/enamelling-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/enamelling-3-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/enamelling-3-768x477.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/enamelling-3-696x432.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Smuggling of Chinese handicrafts into Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Governmental organisations, official traders, and affiliates are all reportedly smuggling loads of handicrafts into the market from China; which consequently leave no room for Iranian craftsmen to compete.<\/p>\n<p>The regime\u2019s own media outlets also acknowledge the damage done to the workers of this field.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s craftsmanship has always been one of its main sources of wealth and cultural pride; despite the deceptive claims of the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, domestic goods have been far from supported in this country, and many jobs have also been lost.
