While the executions have surged<\/a> in Iran since the ascension of Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> to the presidency, and despite the international community’s grave concerns expressed at a recent meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva over the increasing executions and horrific human rights abuses in Iran, particularly juvenile executions, the European Union special envoy, Enrique Mora, is scheduled to travel to Iran on Thursday, October 14, 2021.<\/p>\n

Saeed Khatibzadeh, the spokesman for the clerical regime’s Foreign Ministry said, “(Mora’s) trip follows consultations between the two sides on issues of mutual interest, including relations between Iran and the Union, Afghanistan and the nuclear accord.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to credible reports, at least 125 people have been executed in Iran since Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> was installed as president, three months ago. That number is more than double the number of executions in the previous quarter. Yesterday, Amnesty International expressed concern over the imminent execution of Arman Abdolali, who was under the age of 18, when arrested for the alleged crime.<\/p>\n

This morning in Glasgow, Scotland, a press conference announced a lawsuit<\/a> against Raisi for his key role in the 1988 massacre<\/a> of 30,000 political prisoners.<\/p>\n

Under these circumstances, any contact with the clerical regime and a visit to Iran under whatever pretext is practically an insult to the Iranian people, contrary to all human rights standards and values recognized by the European Union and will give the wrong signal to the ruling religious fascism in Iran to continue and escalate the executions, terrorism, and human rights abuses Mr. Mora’s previous visit during Ebrahim Raisi’s inauguration<\/a> outraged the Iranian people both inside and outside Iran and was considered an insult to the Iranian people, emboldening the regime to continue its malign activities in the region.<\/p>\n

It is time for the European Union and its member states to be on the right side and refer the case of the 1988 massacre and human rights abuses in Iran to the UN Security Council so that the leaders of this regime can be prosecuted for genocide and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
