On Monday, Iran\u2019s ongoing human rights violations were again brought under the spotlight during the United Nations General Assembly\u2019s human rights committee<\/a>. <\/span>Javaid Rehman, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, expressed concern over\u00a0the increasing human rights violations in Iran, underlining that \u201cthe human rights situation in Iran remains grim.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In his speech, Rehman once again referred to the crisis of impunity<\/a> in Iran under the mullahs\u2019 regime and how human rights abusers hold top positions in the regime. Mr. Rehman underlined that Iran\u2019s deplorable human rights situation \u201caggravated by the fact that individuals who face allegations of being involved in the commission of serious human rights violations remain in powerful positions, including at the highest level of public office.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The\u00a0impunity crisis in Iran peaked\u00a0in June when Ebrahim Raisi was selected as\u00a0the regime\u2019s president.\u00a0Raisi is one of the leading officials<\/a> involved in the 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When Raisi was announced to be the regime\u2019s next president, Amnesty International\u2019s Secretary General Agn\u00e8s\u00a0Callamard\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span><\/a>: \u201cEbrahim Raisi has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity of murder, enforced disappearance and torture, is a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Many human rights organizations, including Amnesty and the Iranian Resistance, underlined that Raisi’s presidency would immediately aggravate Iran\u2019s general human rights situation. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Iranian Resistance\u00a0<\/span>reported<\/span><\/a> on October 24 that \u201cAt least 31 prisoners have been hanged in various Iranian cities in the past 30 days alone, bringing to at least 141 the number of executions after Ebrahim\u00a0Raisi and Gholam Hossein\u00a0Mohseni\u00a0Ejei\u00a0<\/a>became President and the Judiciary Chief, respectively.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mr.\u00a0 Rehman also referred to the rising number of executions in Iran, describing it as \u201c\u202fan alarming rate,\u201d adding that \u201cthe absence of official statistics and lack of transparency around executions means that this practice escapes scrutiny resulting in serious abuses preventing accountability.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>Iran: Who is Ebrahim Raisi?<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>![\"Iran:](\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FEjiFeikww3w%2F0.jpg\")
