The bomb plot intended to target an annual Iranian opposition rally held in Villepinte, north of Paris, where over 100,000 Iranian dissidents gathered each year. The decision to green-light this terror attack, which could have been one of the largest terrorist attacks in Europe’s history, traces back to the most senior officials of Iran’s regime, according to international news media. On January 9, 2018, Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said the opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) were behind Iran's Dec. 2017-Jan. 2018 protests. From this day forward the regime’s launched plans to carry its largest-ever terror plot on European soil, with the signatures of Khamenei, Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi. The target was the annual Iranian opposition gathering near Paris where over 100,000 people, along with hundreds of political dignitaries, take part. NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi is the keynote speaker at these events. This conference is an event that Zarif describes as a very hostile measure. Senior Iranian regime officials allocated all their assets for this terrorist plot, assigned to their Vienna-based diplomat by the name of Assadollah Assadi. Assadi is a career Intelligence Ministry agent and an expert in explosives. Following a year of preparations, on June 20, 2018, exactly ten days prior to the NCRI’s 2018 gathering in Villepinte near Paris, Assadi was summoned to Tehran and on June 22 he personally transferred the explosive device in his luggage on an Austrian Airbus passenger plane, flight number OS872, to Vienna. The bomb contained 500 grams of TATP explosives with a remote control detonation mechanism. On June 28, Assadi traveled to Luxembourg where he delivered the bomb to two terrorist agents, Nasimeh Na'ami and Amir Saadouni, who was missioned to take the package to the gathering site. Assadi was in close contact with these two agents for years and regularly met with them in various European countries while sending them to Iran for training whenever necessary. The two terrorist agents, while transferring the bomb in their vehicle to Paris and the gathering site, were arrested prior to noon on June 29 in Belgium. On the afternoon of the same day, Mehrdad Arefani, a third terrorist, was arrested at the gathering site in Villepinte, just north of Paris. Assadi himself was arrested on the afternoon of the next day, The truth is that Asadollah Assadi is a senior ranking MOIS member working under the cover of a diplomat. Both of his posts as an intelligence official and diplomat indicate that he is part of a military/administrative chain of command, making both the MOIS and Foreign Ministry responsible for his measures. This hierarchy begins with his two superiors in both the MOIS and Foreign Ministry and linked to both ministers directly. These two ministers are under the authority of the regime’s President. The mullahs’ leader is also the highest official responsible in this regime. Furthermore, the MOIS is specifically and directly under the supervision of Khamenei himself and the foreign minister also reports directly to him. This indicates very well that the appeasement policy, alongside neglecting the regime’s terrorist crimes and espionage, have resulted in the mullahs taking on such unprecedented crimes despite the high risks. Its diplomat terrorists and senior officials count on appeasement on one hand and taking advantage of nuclear talks with the Europeans on the other, providing the regime with a sense of immunity. NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi said the following during an online conference on October 22 regarding the case of Assadollah Assadi: 1. European countries must set aside all political considerations in this case. The regime’s leaders must be prosecuted and they must face justice. This is a necessary and a preventive measure against terrorism under the name of Islam with the clerical regime as its exporter and central banker. 2. Khamenei and Rouhani took a great risk by sending a diplomat to carry out the bombing and slaughter. The reason is that they are extremely vulnerable in the face of the people’s uprisings, the spread of the Resistance’s influence, and the overthrow of their regime. 3. The policy of appeasement has greatly emboldened the regime over the past 40 years. To the extent that their diplomat, who is arrested, makes threats of more terrorist operations if convicted, even from inside prison. https://www.maryam-rajavi.com/en/item/maryam-rajavi-eu-terrorism-islam-eu-obligations-brussels">

The appeal by Assadi’s co-conspirators is being heard at the same time as hearings are being held in Albania in the case of Hamid Noury, a former Iranian prison official who has been implicated in the regime’s single worst domestic crackdown. In the summer of 1988, Noury reportedly led political prisoners before a “death commission” at Gohardasht Prison and then to the gallows when they failed to demonstrate fealty to the theocratic system. Although charges were filed against him by Swedish authorities based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, the recent hearings in Albania reflect the fact that the massacre mainly targeted members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Most of the massacre’s victims were buried in secret mass graves, and over the years some of those gravesites have been paved over and built upon in an effort to stymie any future investigations. Groups like Amnesty International have warned about the potential impact of this phenomenon, both in terms of its impact on victims’ families and in terms of its reinforcement of the regime’s impunity in matters of human rights abuses and terrorism.

Amnesty was also quick to highlight that impunity in the wake of Iran’s June presidential election, which saw the election of Ebrahim Raisi to the country’s second-highest office following a race in which other viable candidates were barred from running. “That Ebrahim Raisi has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity of murder, enforced disappearance and torture, is a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran,” said the organization’s Secretary-General, Agnès Calamard, in a statement immediately following that election.

The implied demand for such investigation was based primarily on two things: Raisi’s role as the head of the judiciary at the time of deadly crackdowns on a popular uprising in 2019, and his role as one of four members of the Tehran death commission that oversaw much of the 1988 massacre. The NCRI’s commentary on Nouri’s trial has frequently emphasized that the principle utilized to justify his prosecution could similarly be utilized to prosecute Iran’s current president. Its statement on the Belgian court’s appeal consideration also explicitly extended the call for high-level prosecutions to include Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei effectively installed Raisi as the president himself and was instrumental in the prior appointment of other terrorists and human rights abusers to other high-profile positions. Among these were Mostafa Pourmohammadi and Alireza Avaei, who served back-to-back as Ministers of Justice despite having both directly participated in the 1988 massacre. Pourmohammadi even sat on the Tehran death commission alongside Raisi and later defended the mass killing of MEK members in interviews with state media, after details of the massacre leaked in 2016.

Western policymakers still remained largely silent on the issue of the massacre in the wake of those public statements, thereby courting further criticism regarding weak Iran policies and a tendency toward “appeasement.” In September 2020, seven UN human rights experts wrote an open letter to Iranian authorities about the 1988 massacre and called attention to the international community’s failure to follow up on early reports of an upsurge in killings. This, they said, “had a devastating impact on the victims and families, as well as on the general situation of human rights in Iran.”

The statement also argued that Iran had been emboldened in a “strategy of deflection and denial,” which arguably applies to the regime’s terrorist activity as well as its domestic violations of human rights. In declining to pursue an appeal for the mastermind of the plot to bomb the 2018 Paris rally, the Iranian regime presumably sought to avoid any additional international scrutiny regarding the case. And according to the NCRI, there is good reason for the regime to be concerned, given that the plot was evidently approved at the highest levels.

In the early days of the #1988Massacre, the Iranian Resistance Leader informed the U.N. and the international community of the mass executions in #Iran. Unfortunately, they ignored the info due to the policy of appeasement of the mullahs’ vicious regime. https://t.co/QCL6nR0nsy pic.twitter.com/7NwesBsoSG

— Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) September 5, 2021

In fact, Belgian prosecutors acknowledged this fact in prosecuting Assadi and his accomplices. The NCRI was more specific in that issue, noting that Iran’s Supreme National Security Council is closely involved in all matters of foreign policy, and is comprised of various high-ranking officials including the president and the foreign minister. NCRI President Mrs. Maryam Rajavi explained all of this in seven-hour testimony before the Belgian court in 2019.

The NCRI noted that Khamenei would have approved any decision taken by the SNSC, and it attributed that approval to the same impulse guiding his appointment of Raisi as president. “Engulfed in incurable internal and external crises,” the coalition said, “Khamenei has found the only way out in stepping up suppression, accelerating the atomic bomb project, and carrying out more terrorism.” It then added that “Raisi’s cabinet foretells the escalation of terrorism,” insofar as it consists of numerous Revolutionary Guards and several persons who have been personally implicated in past terrorist incidents. Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi is even subject to an Interpol arrest warrant, but to the frustration of Tehran’s critics, little apparent efforts have been made to execute that warrant, even in the wake of the fairly recent bomb threat on European soil.

On Wednesday, the National Council of Resistance of Iran issued a statement in response to an appeal that had been filed in a Belgian court by three individuals convicted in […]

[15,19
129,141,198,204,287
0":"post-250968","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-human-rights","8":"category-terrorism-a-fundamentalism","9":"tag-iran","10":"tag-human-rights","11":"tag-ncri","12":"tag-maryam-rajavi","13":"tag-iran-terrorism
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
