They protest for failure to pay their salaries and unjust behavior.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Sunday, state-run media outlets published reports claiming the Iranian regime\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, met with several nurses and family members of those medical professionals who died due to the Covid-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of offering solutions to address nurses\u2019 dire consequences and the country\u2019s worsening Covid-19 crisis, Khamenei spoke of the \u201cenemy\u201d trying to \u201cchange the place of the oppressor and the oppressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khamenei\u2019s blatant remarks come when the death toll due to coronavirus has surpassed 488,100. Iranian people, particularly nurses, blame Khamenei for the high death toll due to his order to ban the import of American and European vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of Iranian nurses have died due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Dozens of them have committed suicide due to their poor working conditions, and many have left the country. These facts have been confirmed by many Iranian officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, with 130 dead nurses who were fighting COVID-19, we are among the countries with the greatest number of infections and deaths among nurses,\u201d\u202f<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/2021\/05\/12\/official-inattention-covid-19-massacre-selfless-nurses-in-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">said\u202fthe Head of Iran\u2019s Nursing Organization<\/a>, Mohammad Mirza Beigi in April 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2020, at least 1250 nurses applied for immigration. Although upon estimates, the real figure would be 1.5 or 2 times more. Let&#8217;s take an average of 1500 people. Although the regime has vaccinated a very limited number of people, medical staff and in particular Iranian nurses as high-risk groups have been victims of the regime&#039;s inhumane policy over the past 14 months. On April 15, the state-run Resalat daily wrote, &quot;The miserable conditions of Iranian nurses and the delay in vaccinating this group of medical staff is undeniable. They have no strength left. Iranian nurses have reached the point of exhaustion and desperation.&quot; So far, the regime has not provided accurate statistics on the vaccination of Iranian nurses and medical staff across the country. In other countries, a lot of vaccines and other facilities are freely provided to medical staff to strengthen them in the covid response. But in Iran, not only do nurses not have enough equipment, but the regime is even charging the medical staff for vaccination. On April 7, Kar Va Kargar website quoted Mohammad Reza Sharifi Moghadam, the Secretary General of the Nursing House, as saying, &quot;There are about 170,000 to 180,000 nurses in the country, many of whom have contracted the virus. There are more than 400,000 medical staff in the country. over the past year the regime has not allocated sufficient funds to provide the necessary equipment and vaccines to prevent medical staff from contracting Covid-19. According to the secretary general of the Nursing House: &quot;So far, the minimum death toll (because of Covid-19) of Iranian nurses has been about 130, which is the highest number in the world compared to the population of Iranian nurses.\u201d (Source: Jahan-e Sanat daily, May 5) serial suicides among medical staff have leaked to the state-run media. On May 5, Jahan-e Sanat quoted Sharifi Moghadam as saying, \u201cIn recent days, a number of nurses and medical assistants have chosen voluntary death (suicide)\u2026 In just one week, three of the best medical assistants have chosen to end their own lives. Iranian nurses barely make ends meet so experts blame low-income for choosing such deaths.&quot; The Deputy Minister of Education of the Medical Council Organization considered poverty as the reason of suicide of a number of assistants in specialized fields and said: &quot;This group is one of the underserved and hardworking segments of the medical community, and the residency period is one of the most difficult periods in the life of a doctor in Iran, because this group is facing various problems, including education, economy and livelihood at the same time. They have very low income, less than 40 million rials per month, and usually at this age, some assistants have a family, and they are responsible for their spouses and children.&quot;(Source: ILNA, May 12) In the past 14 months since the outbreak of Covid-19, due to the poor living conditions and the collapse of the economy, a large number of Iranian nurses have been forced to migrate. Armin Zareian, the chairman of the board of directors of the Tehran Nursing Organization, told the ISNA news agency on March 30: &quot;Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, about 500 nurses have migrated from Iran every month to countries such as Canada, Sweden and some Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.\u201d https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/iran-nurses-covid-outbreak-20210519 *** Content on the PMOI\/MEK&#039;s official YouTube channel are not subject to copyright if the source is mentioned ***\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>There have been dozens of protests by Iranian nurses in the last few weeks. Unlike other countries, nurses in Iran were deprived of their basic rights, let alone special bonuses, during the Covid-19 outbreak. Nurses in Iran do not receive their salaries for months on. The situation is worse for nurses who have temporary contracts. They are on the front line of the fight against Covid-19, but many of them do not have insurances.<\/p>\n<p>These temporary contracts do not include benefits, bonuses, or incentives, and their monthly income is around 4 million tomans or $134, based on the dollar exchange rate at the free market as of December 13, 2021. Nurses with official contracts receive nearly 7 million tomans or around $235. This amount is far less than what nurses in other countries make.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, registered nurses receive $77,460 or nearly $6,000 per month.<\/p>\n<p>One might argue that Iran is under sanctions. But this is not true. The Iranian regime has enough money to help nurses. But over the past three months, as coronavirus has spread across Iran and killed many people, the regime continues to send cash to pay its foreign mercenaries in Syria and Lebanon in order to continue its terrorism and war in the region. The monthly salary of IRGC mercenaries in Syria averages about &#36;1,000 a month. According to Ministry of Health officials, the average salary of nurses in Iran is &#36;200 a month. A simple comparison: The &#36;200 monthly salary paid to an Iranian nurse is a fifth of the &#36;1,000 average salary of IRGC mercenaries in Syria. Another comparison: The total salary paid to nurses in Iran is &#36;30 million a month The total salary of IRGC mercenaries in Syria is &#36;70 million a month. Conclusion: The total salary paid to regime mercenaries in Syria is more than double the total salary of nurses in Iran. The monthly salary of IRGC foreign mercenaries in Syria is only a fraction of the salary of IRGC mercenaries in different countries. In addition to Syria, the regime pays fixed monthly salaries to its mercenaries in Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan. The IRGC is currently providing &#36;700 million a year in financial assistance to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Paying salaries to foreign mercenaries is only part of the cost of the IRGC\u2019s warmongering and terrorism in other parts of the world. In the case of Syria, the clerical regime\u2019s cash donations to Bashar al-Assad\u2019s dictatorship have cost the regime up to &#36;15 billion a year.\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>Khamenei, who shed crocodile tears for Iranian nurses on Sunday, has \u201cassets estimated at about $95 billion,\u201d according to a study\u202fconducted\u202fby Reuters in 2013. He controls several financial institutions that control Iran\u2019s resources and wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Khamenei has refused to spend a single dollar on Iran\u2019s collapsing healthcare system. Since the first day of the Covid-19 outbreak, Khamenei and his regime called this deadly virus a \u201ctest\u201d and \u201cblessing.\u201d He explicitly banned certified American and British vaccines in January.<\/p>\n<p>He also insisted on producing the so-called domestic \u201cvaccines.\u201d The domestic vaccine was produced by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-raisi-appoints-head-of-the-plundering-cartel-eiko-as-1st-vice-president-and-a-henchman-as-his-chief-of-staff\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Execution of Imam Khomeini\u2019s Order (EIKO)<\/a>, a huge financial institution Khamenei controls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo weeks ago, Ali Tajernia told Sharq daily: \u2018It seems that Barakat had presold its vaccine. It seems that the reason for not wanting to buy the vaccine from western countries was that Barakat had received 200,000 Tomans for each dose of the vaccine. If we multiply this by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/irans-covid-19-outbreak-and-regimes-vaccination-hoax\/\" rel=\"noopener\">120\u202fmillion vaccines<\/a>, Barkat took over $ 1 billion from the government funds,\u2019\u201d the state-run Mardom Salarie daily wrote on September 23, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Khamenei has not only cared for nurses but is behind their current deplorable situation. He could have decreased coronavirus&#8217;s mortality and infection rate by allowing certified vaccines to enter the country or allocating enough funds to the country&#8217;s declining healthcare system. Yet, he refused to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The latest propaganda by Khamenei truly portrays his fear of the Iranian people. The recent strike by Iranian teachers and ongoing protests in Iran by people from all walks of life are signs of a restive society.
