General Abdolreza Shahla\u2019i, the mysterious commander of the Yemen division of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/publications\/special-reports\/the-iranian-regimes-irgc-quds-force-1980s-present\/\">IRGC\u2019s Quds Force<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cYesterday morning Hassan Irlu, Iran\u2019s ambassador in Yemen, died due to Covid-19. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced his death and called him a \u2018martyr.\u2019 Evidence indicates he was a high-ranking Quds Force member,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rouydad24.ir\/fa\/news\/291722\/%D8%B3%D8%B1%DA%AF%D8%B0%D8%B4%D8%AA-%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A2%D9%85%DB%8C%D8%B2-%D8%AD%D8%B3%D9%86-%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%B1%D9%84%D9%88-%D8%B3%D9%81%DB%8C%D8%B1-%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%AF%D8%B1-%DB%8C%D9%85%D9%86-%D8%AD%D8%A7%DA%A9%D9%85-%D9%85%D8%B7%D9%84%D9%82-%D8%B3%D8%B1%D8%B2%D9%85%DB%8C%D9%86-%D8%AD%D9%88%D8%AB%DB%8C-%D9%87%D8%A7-%D9%88-%D9%85%D8%B1%D8%AF-%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%AA-%D8%AA%D8%B9%D9%82%DB%8C%D8%A8-%D8%A2%D9%85%D8%B1%DB%8C%DA%A9%D8%A7\">wrote<\/a> the state-run Roydad-e 24.\u201cThere is little or no information of Irlu\u2019s life, and there are not many photos of him. Interestingly, like his life, his death was also mysterious.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IRLU\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-253281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU.jpg\" alt=\"IRLU\" width=\"1000\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-768x455.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-150x89.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-696x412.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">Who was Hassan Irlu?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">According to Iran\u2019s state media, \u201cHassan Irlu was appointed as the ambassador to Yemen in September 2021, after an official announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic.\u201d He was in Sanaa, which has been in Houthis\u2019 control since 2015. Since the regime funds and recognizes Houthis as the legitimate government of Yemen, it has established its embassy in the Houthis\u2019 stronghold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">According to the Iran regime\u2019s state-run media, \u201cYemeni government officials have called Irlu the most influential figure in Yemen, and some have even referred to him as the absolute ruler of Houthi-controlled territories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IRLU-4\" class=\"size-full wp-image-253280 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-4.jpg\" alt=\"IRLU-4\" width=\"560\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-4.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-4-300x83.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-4-150x42.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mostafa Vosough Kia, the cultural secretary of Mehr News Agency, an outlet affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), used the title \u201cShahla\u2019i\u201d in parentheses for Hassan Irlu in his message of condolence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ahmad Naderi, one of the regime\u2019s MPs from Tehran, wrote on Twitter: \u201cThe martyrdom of Haj Hassan Irlu, Iran\u2019s active ambassador to Yemen, is a severe pain in the \u2018resistance\u2019s\u2019 heart.\u201d He also accused Saudi Arabia and the Arab collation of assassinating Irlu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The name of Shahla\u2019i surfaced in 2011, as the interlocutor with Iranian agents in the US ordered to assassinate Saudi Arabia\u2019s ambassador to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IRLU-3\" class=\"size-full wp-image-253283 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-3.jpg\" alt=\"IRLU-3\" width=\"570\" height=\"528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-3.jpg 570w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-3-300x278.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IRLU-3-150x139.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">According to the U.S. State Department, \u201cAs a financier and senior IRGC official, in 2011, Shahla\u2019i funded $5 million dollars, and directed the plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador in Washington, DC. Shahla\u2019i also planned follow-on attacks inside the United States and elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In January 2020, Reuters reported that Shahla\u2019i had escaped a drone strike by the United States simultaneously with the drone attack that eliminate the Quds Force\u2019s notorious commander <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/who-was-the-vicious-criminal-qassem-soleimani\/\">Qassem Soleimani<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The U.S. Department of State had placed a $15 million reward for information leading to the whereabouts of Abdulreza Shahla\u2019i \u201ca high-ranking commander in the IRGC\u2013Qods Force, based in Sanaa, Yemen.
