The heavy \u201cair pollution\u201d in this area, has led to high rates of cancer, infertility, defective embryos, disabled children, skin diseases, and even death.<\/p>\n<p>The state-run newspaper, Iran, recently released a report (September 17th, 2018), titled \u201call doctors know about Kazzaz\u201d which discusses pollutions emerging from \u201coil and petrochemical refinements, as well as thermal powerplants\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One of the residents of this village says: \u201cfor the past 2-3 years, doctors of this area have been telling their patients that their illnesses are caused by the pollutions of industrial refineries of this village\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The governor of Shazand, Mostafa Arab, has specifically clarified that these industrial pollutants have had \u201cmany detrimental effects on water, soil, and the public health in general\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Kazzaz-1\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-1.jpg\" alt=\"Kazzaz-1\" width=\"800\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-1-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-1-696x460.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>Placard reads: all together we say in one voice: Fresh Air is our Inalienable Right<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A member of Shazand\u2019s council, named Mehdi Bakhshi, deems the \u201cwrong placement\u201d of heavy industries like those of oil and petrochemical refineries or thermal power plants, a complete \u201cinjustice\u201d to the residents of this village.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bakhshi, \u201cdue to the close proximity\u201d of this village \u201cto industrial refineries\u201d, things like cancer, skin conditions, miscarriage, and infertility, have sadly become very common in this area. Adding that: \u201cI wish our state officials spent just 24 hours of their time in Kazzaz, to personally experience the negative impacts of industrial pollutants here. But unfortunately, those officials are only thinking of themselves, and disregard the wellbeing of others in this village\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The residents of this area have also reported of the \u201cdeath of several men and women\u201d from cancer, over the last 40 days; as well as the birth of \u201c35 defective children\u201d, \u201cwater pollution\u201d, and \u201csticky livestock\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One of the residents, named Abdollah Jafari, comments: \u201cHere in our village, 80% of the population have cancer; look at my own hands&#8230;these blisters are clearly from pollution\u2026 even my 4-year-old son has a skin condition, with leather-like patches all over him\u2026but no one cares to hear us out\u201d; adding that \u201ceveryone knows about the pollution here, but no one does anything to improve the situation&#8230;so don\u2019t even bother\u2026\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Kazzaz-3\" class=\" size-full wp-image-52115\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-3.jpg\" width=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Kazzaz-3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>Placards read: Blue Sky and Fresh Air are our Inalienable Rights<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To sum things up, most residents are mainly frustrated with \u201cair pollution\u201d, \u201cbad odour\u201d, and associated risks of \u201cskin and lung infections\u201d; they have even protested at mosques several times, but their cry for help is yet to be heard.<\/p>\n<p>The Iran newspaper also emphasises the negative impacts on women in specific, who end up either infertile, or giving birth to defective babies.<\/p>\n<p>As an example, a woman who reportedly had a miscarriage just recently, tells Iran newspaper: \u201cdoctors said that my embryo\u2019s heart was not fully developed; when I asked for the reason, they immediately said that air pollution was the cause\u2026 many others from my area have apparently had the same problem\u2026which is why Arak\u2019s doctors know Kazzaz very well now\u201d; adding: \u201cHere, people either end up with cancer, infertility, death, or defective babies.
