Iran: At Least 93,000 Women heads of household in Sistan and Baluchistan<\/h3>\n

The state-run Arman-e Meli daily reported on Sunday that at least 93,000 women heads of household hardly make ends meet in Sistan and Baluchistan.<\/p>\n

“Official statistics report on female-headed households show that in recent decades the number of female-headed households has increased by about 26.8 percent, and Sistan and Baluchistan with 20.1 percent have the highest number. Sistan and Baluchistan province has 93,000 women heads of households,” wrote the state-run Arman-e Meli, quoting Director-General of the Office of Women and Family Affairs of Sistan and Baluchestan Governorate.<\/p>\n

“The main reason for the expansion of the number of female-headed households is the widespread underdevelopment of the region. In fact, it is poverty that has made it difficult for female-headed households to cope with livelihood issues. Many women in the province lack financial security,” Zahra Ebrahimi told Arman-e Meli.<\/p>\n
