Europe has consistently been optimistic about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), more commonly known as the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which was signed by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany and the EU.<\/p>\n
Frederica Mogherini, the EU\u2019s foreign policy representative, even called it a \u201cshared commitment to peace\u201d, which would \u201cmake our world safer\u201d.<\/p>\n
But three years later, is there peace in the Middle East? No. This deal has only emboldened the Iranian regime in its expansionism and sponsorship of terrorism.<\/p>\n
In Syria, Iran regime\u2019s militias are helping keep the Bashar Assad dictatorship in play, while in Lebanon, Iran is funding the Hezbollah terrorist group, which has great control over the country. In Iraq, The Iranian Regime has fulfilled one of its goals to undermine the post-war stability there and its militias have launched attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad and consulate in Basra.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, as a result of these attacks on US government buildings in Iraq, the US withdrew from the 1955 Treaty of Amity. Although it was already clear that there is no love lost between the nations, this still sent an important message that Iran cannot continue to attack American interests without repercussion.<\/p>\n
But why is Europe, the target of at least two recent terror attacks by the Iranian Regime, still sticking by Iran and the flawed nuclear deal?<\/p>\n
When Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran deal in May and reinstated sanctions, Europe should have followed suit; instead they promised to save the deal.<\/p>\n
They must know by now that there are no moderates in the Regime and that the JCPOA only grants financial support to the mullahs\u2019 worst behaviours. In 2015, just after the deal was signed, regime\u2019s President Hassan Rouhani increased the size of the militant Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps by 145% thanks to the millions in unfrozen assets that were set to flood the country.<\/p>\n
