In his contradictory remarks, Khamenei twisted the realities and desperately tried to portray the regime\u2019s recent setbacks as \u201cvictories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After months of silence regarding the regime\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/vienna-talks-continues-without-a-result-increase-pressure-on-irans-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negotiations<\/a> with world powers over its clandestine nuclear program, Khamenei uttered contradictory words, reflecting his desperation. \u201cNegotiations and interactions with the enemy are totally different from succumbing to their bullying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His conflicting remarks about the nuclear talks coincide with world powers\u2019 warnings that time is running out for reviving the nuclear deal. Sanctions, coupled with the regime\u2019s institutionalized corruption and mismanagement, have crippled Iran\u2019s economy, and state media and regime officials warn about an immediate \u201ceconomic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iranintl.com\/en\/20211105777644\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collapse<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Internal Crisis<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By relying on a totally subservient parliament and a handpicked president, Khamenei sought to finally close ranks and consolidate his fragile regime.\u00a0Nevertheless, Iran\u2019s current economic and social crises have intensified the regime\u2019s factional feuding, prompting Khamenei to explicitly warn of \u201cdivision\u201d and political \u201cconfrontation\u201d within his regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe should decrease any element that would lead to diversion. The enemy is waiting in the wings, and we should always consider this fact,\u201d Khamenei cautioned.\u00a0While Khamenei was calling for \u201cunity,\u201d the regime\u2019s factional feuding reached a new height at parliament as Raisi was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iranintl.com\/en\/202201089606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defending<\/a> his highly flawed budget plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite Khamenei\u2019s desperate calls for unity, seventy-six MPs voted against Raisi\u2019s budget bill, with many warning Raisi about the budget\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/economy\/irans-2022-2023-budget-zero-employment-and-production-increased-plunder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">loopholes<\/a> and the devastating consequences of some measures, such as removing the official exchange rate, which would cause a currency shock and result in a hike in the inflation and already skyrocketing prices of consumer goods.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe warn Mr. Raisi that society is not prone to these crises. Do not mess with society. Assess the conditions in the region and the power of the people,\u201d Mehdi Asgari, warned Raisi on Sunday, according to Majlis\u2019 official, Khan-e Melat News Agency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Social and Economic Crises<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei refused to address Iran\u2019s current social and economic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-officials-and-state-media-confirm-the-bleak-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crises<\/a>, merely pointing to some general factors such as \u201ceconomic issues, inflation, skyrocketing prices, and people\u2019s livelihood.\u201d\u00a0Khamenei brazenly said, \u201cSome speak of these economic issues as if the Islamic Republic has not had any other achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite Khamenei\u2019s blatant remarks, regime officials and state media acknowledge Iran\u2019s current economic and social woes and their devastating consequences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUnfortunately, hunger and poverty have become significant in Iran, and 60% of the country\u2019s population live below the poverty line. By accepting that about 60 million Iranians are eligible to receive subsidies, the parliament is accepting that 72% of the Iranian people are entitled to donations,\u201d said Ahmad Tavakoli, a member of the Iranian regime\u2019s Expediency Council during his speech at the so-called Islamic Associations of Independent Students on January 7.\u00a0Tavakoli warned that \u201cIf the state does not address these problems, incidents will occur that should not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei is aware of the current explosive state of society and terrified of another uprising and the role of the Iranian Resistance. While complaining about \u201cenemies\u201d and their \u201cextensive propaganda on social media,\u201d Khamenei expressed his utter fear of Iran\u2019s vibrant youth and the organized Resistance <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/iranian-resistance-units\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome try to diminish hope in the younger generation.
