From February 2020 onward, the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, citing its vast network of activists across the country, has on a daily basis provided Covid death count reports from medical centers in all of Iran\u2019s 31 provinces. In what circumstances did coronavirus enter Iran? In late 2019 Iran\u2019s regime was in extremely fragile conditions, with protests and unrests escalating across the country. Therefore, the mullahs literally welcomed the entry of coronavirus with open arms as a means to defend their rule against a restive society. In November 2019 the Iranian people rose in protests in nearly 200 cities throughout the country, chanting: \u201cDown with Khamenei!\u201d and \u201cDown with the dictator!\u201d seeking the regime\u2019s overthrow. This time around the people\u2019s uprising was far more powerful than the December 2017\/January 2018 episode. The regime leader, Ali Khamenei, ordered the crackdown of these protests at all costs. More than 1,500 defenseless demonstrators were killed across Iran. Following the downing of Ukrainian passenger flight PS752 on January 8, 2020, by the Revolutionary Guards, Iran once again witnessed a popular uprising in 22 cities, especially by college students. Coverups, inaction led to the virus\u2019 vast spread In February 2020, fearing a nationwide boycott of the regime\u2019s 1979 revolution anniversary celebrations and the sham parliamentary elections, Khamenei kept a lid on the fact that coronavirus had entered Iran more than a month earlier. He was specifically pursuing a strategy of inflicting catastrophic casualties in large numbers as a means to prevent further popular uprisings. Coronavirus has been both an opportunity and an ally for Khamenei to maintain his fragile rule. As a result, no serious efforts were made, including public quarantine, to contain coronavirus, rendering covid numbers escalating at a fast rate. Through its security apparatus, the regime in Iran has systematically downsized the coronavirus death toll by one-third to one-fourth of the actual figures. \u201cCoronavirus is nothing serious,\u201d said Khamenei on March 3, 2020, over a month after coronavirus was spreading in large parts of Iran, aiming to deceive the Iranian population and justify the regime\u2019s policies. During this period, the Iranian regime has used coronavirus as an ally. The mullahs, while claiming to lack adequate equipment and supplies to confront covid, Khamenei\u2019s state foundations enjoy over &#36;1 trillion in assets. The IRGC budget has increased twice in the two years of this pandemic, as has the support provided to Iran\u2019s proxy groups throughout the Middle East. While the international community voiced its readiness to support Iran, on January 8, 2021, Khamenei banned the entry of American and British vaccines, practically delaying popular vaccination in Iran for months. Coronavirus continued its massacre in Iran, reaching over 2,000 deaths per day in August and September 2021. Behesht-e Zahra, Tehran\u2019s main cemetery with a surface area of over 10 square kilometers, will be filled in the coming two years, said the Tehran City Council spokesperson.
