<\/h2>\n<\/h2>\nOn the 43rd<\/sup> anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchical revolution in Iran, dozens of members of the United States House of Representatives attended an online conference on February 11, renewing their support for the Iranian people\u2019s democratic aspirations. While praising the Iranian people\u2019s revolution in 1979 which toppled the Shah\u2019s military dictatorship, the U.S. lawmakers underlined that people\u2019s spirit and aspirations that led to that revolution have not faded. They also voiced support for the establishment of a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic in Iran.<\/p>\n Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), also sent a video message to this event, underlining, \u201cToday, there is a democratic alternative that has a powerful social base. It has elevated the widespread social discontent toward a goal-oriented struggle to overthrow the regime in its entirety.\u201d<\/p>\n While praising the efforts of the American legislators in supporting the cause of a free Iran, Mrs. Rajavi said: \u201cWe hope that Congress shapes US policy in a way that mistakes committed during the Shah\u2019s regime are avoided and that US policy distances itself from approaches that appease the mullahs.\u201d<\/p>\n The conference on Friday witnessed the bi-partisan support of 50 members of the house of Representatives. These lawmakers are co-sponsors of House Resolution 118, which calls for a democratic Iran, and with 250 co-sponsors enjoy<\/a> the support of a majority of the U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n \u201cThe revolution was about freedom for the Iranian people, and they still want that. So, all this time later, let\u2019s renew the spirit of that revolution and if it\u2019s time to throw off that theocracy, let\u2019s not forget that\u201d Congressman Scott Perry<\/a> (R-PA) said in this regard.<\/p>\n \u201cThe revolution may have started with talk of democracy but ultimately forced the Iranian people to live under an autocratic and corrupt regime that targets its own people and is the chief state sponsor of international terrorism from Syria to Lebanon to Gaza to Europe and South America and across the globe,\u201d Congressman Brad Sherman<\/a> (D-CA) told the conference. \u201cFor too long, the Iranian people have been deprived of their fundamental freedoms, for which reason they rejected dictatorship in 1979 and oppose religious tyranny today. And that\u2019s why I became the chief sponsor of House Resolution 118, expressing support for the Iranian people\u2019s desire for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear-nuclear republic of Iran and condemning violations of human rights and state-sponsored terrorism by the current Iranian regime.<\/p>\n Congresswoman Judi Chu<\/a> (D-CA) stressed that \u201cHaving such a large bipartisan bill condemning the Iranian government\u2019s support for terrorism sends a clear signal to the people of Iran that they are not alone, that Iranian people deserve to be free from the harsh and violent rule of Iran\u2019s mullahs and the world deserves to feel safe from Iranian support for terror and violence.
