On Monday evening, March 28, the body of the preeminent intellectual, acclaimed writer and literary scholar, Dr. Manouchehr Hezarkhani<\/a>, was laid to rest at the Cimeti\u00e8re d’Auvers-sur-Oise, France.<\/p>\n

The last resting place of one of the most celebrated artists in the world, the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, the cemetery once again witnessed hundreds of Iranians, both supporters of the Iranian Resistance as well as friends, family members, and admirers of Dr. Hazarkhani\u2019s work. They came from all over Europe and wanted to say farewell to a brave soul who had devoted his entire career to those who had blessed him with praise and trust: his people.<\/p>\n

Following the funeral, a commemoration ceremony was held for Dr. Hezarkhani at the headquarters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in Auvers-sur-Oise. Thousands of members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran Organization<\/a> (PMOI\/MEK) joined the event online via Albania.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, President-elect of the NCRI, attended online and addressed the meeting. Several members of the NCRI also spoke at the gathering.<\/p>\n

In her speech, Mrs. Rajavi described Dr. Hazarkhani as a person whose life, but also his passing, had inspired and motivated the resistance and struggle against the enemy of the Iranian people.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor 40 years, his first and foremost focus was to overthrow the regime, and with the power of his pen, he targeted the regime and its efforts to preserve its rule and its ideological activities, Mrs. Rajavi said.\u200c \u201cGoing through his writings, books, and interviews over the past four decades, we can see how he incessantly belittled or ridiculed the politics, culture, sharia, law, and the rule of Khomeini and Khamenei with his unique sense of humor. He always exposed the retrogression, vulgarity, and hypocrisy of religious tyranny. He disgraced opportunistic power brokers and their mentor Ali Akbar Rafsanjani<\/a>. He called Mohammad Khatami a chief antichrist who \u201cfalsely sang about \u2018civil society\u2019, \u2018dialogue among civilizations\u2019 and \u2018political advancement\u2019, only to attract more clients for the regime and he seriously despised the regime\u2019s so-called reformist theatre. He slammed the lobbyists and mouthpieces of the regime who opposed sanctions imposed on the regime by shedding crocodile tears for the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Rajavi emphasized: \u201cDr. Hazarkhani rose to the occasion and reached the height of humanity, developing a great position through the decisions he made in life. He became a role model for all intellectuals, writers, and masters of Iranian art and culture to dedicate their skills, talents, and creativity to Iran\u2019s progressive and freedom-seeking movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this fight, there were those who stood against him with ties to the clerical or monarchial regimes. Those who used their poetry, novels, or intellectual skills at the service of the proceeding or succeeding tyrants, becoming instruments of the dictatorship to disappoint the masses,\u201d Mrs. Rajavi added.<\/p>\n

“My father truly loved the Resistance Units,” said Shahin Hezarkhani, the son of Dr. Hezarkhani. \u201cWatching their activities via Iran NTV<\/a>, was a daily routine for him. His heart was only beating with, and for the resistance. He had so much passion for those who had sacrificed their lives for freedom, for our martyrs. Every time he visited the resistance\u2019s camps, he was a different man when he returned.”<\/p>\n

Zeenat Mirhashemi, editor in chief of the \u2018Nabarde Khalq\u2019 journal and a member of the Central Committee of the People’s Fedayeen Guerrilla Organization of Iran, said: \u201cDr. Hezarkhani remained faithful to his ideals until the very last moment, and he fiercely fought for change. He was a capable writer, a committed intellectual, a fighter, and a rebel against injustice. The regime\u2019s operatives continued to attack Dr. Hazarkhani even after his death. They wanted him imprisoned, chained to his own books and writings. But the more the regime writes against him, the more the real value of Dr. Hazarkhani and his decision to join the struggle against this regime becomes evident.”<\/p>\n
