The appalling and inhumane situation in the prisons of the clerical regime<\/em>

The catastrophic and inhumane situation of the clerical regime’s prisons is no secret<\/a>. Many of these prisons were built more than 50 years ago, and the buildings are extremely dilapidated. More importantly, the task of dumping and amassing prisoners at an unusually high rate doubles the physical and psychological torture they endure and at the same time, aims to intimidate the public. We are publishing one hundred photographs of the judiciary\u2019s authorities and henchmen in 23 provinces to signal that they are not immune from being brought to account.<\/p>\n

The following figures, extracted from an internal document of the regime\u2019s judiciary, comprise 277 prisons and show a chart with \u201cnominal capacity\u201d for each prison, but in the next column, the \u201cnumber of beds\u201d in the same prison is shown to be much higher than the “nominal capacity.” In the last column, the “number of prisoners” is also mentioned and is much more than the number of beds.<\/p>\n

For example, as can be seen in the document, the “nominal capacity” of Tabriz Prison is 1,500, but the “number of beds” is 2,660, and the “number of prisoners” is 3,788, which is over 2.5 times the “nominal capacity.” In one of the prisons in Sanandaj, the “nominal capacity” is 290, the “number of beds” is 651, and the “number of prisoners” is 978, i.e., 3.37 times the “nominal capacity.”<\/p>\n
