The United Kingdom, at the end of last month, confirmed that it was going to ban all wings of the Lebanese Hezbollah group. Britain has previously only listed the military wing of Hezbollah, and for quite some time, opined that the military and political wings were completely separate. A belief that Hezbollah was quite happy to go along with, despite having already denied that any such distinction existed.<\/p>\n
Britain announced that it was banning all wings of the group because of its destabilising and malign influence in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Hezbollah plays a major role in the Iranian regime\u2019s destabilisation of the Middle East. Iran has provided billions of dollars of funding to Hezbollah and sees it as instrumental in its regional goals of expanding its influence.<\/p>\n
The United Kingdom\u2019s decision has clearly annoyed the Iranian regime because it now means that it is considered to be a criminal offence, in Britain, to support Hezbollah in any way, shape or form.<\/p>\n
Iranian officials have slammed the United Kingdom\u2019s move as \u201cirresponsible\u201d. A spokesperson for Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry, Bahram Ghasemi, said that the United Kingdom has made a \u201cwrong move\u201d. He also said that Hezbollah is instrumental in the fight against terrorism and that it \u201cdefends the territorial integrity of Lebanon\u201d.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson\u2019s comments are laughable because the Lebanese Hezbollah group is a known terrorist organisation that has been involved in the planning and execution of numerous atrocities across the world.<\/p>\n
It has been a partner to the Iranian regime for many years now and has displayed no such signs of loyalty to its own country. On Iran\u2019s behalf, it has been carrying out atrocious massacres across the region. And beyond. Syria has especially been affected by Hezbollah\u2019s interference on Iran\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n
The international community, and in particular the United States, has been increasing pressure on the Iranian regime. U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to curb the Iran threat and has recognised the regime as the biggest threat to peace and security in the region. He has promised to maintain a maximum pressure campaign on Iran, and so far, he has been keeping his word.<\/p>\n
The Europeans, on the other hand, have been treating the Iranian regime very leniently. Despite a number of assassination and terrorist attack plots on European soil, many European leaders have been reluctant to take decisive action against Iran directly \u2013 still very conscious of not taking action to jeopardise the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) or potential trade relations.<\/p>\n
However, this designation of Hezbollah indicates that the tide may be turning. Hezbollah is as much of a terrorist organisation as the Iranian regime and the United Kingdom is right to be concerned about its influence.<\/p>\n
Pressure on the Iranian regime \u2013 both on the domestic and international fronts \u2013 is going to force the regime to collapse soon. This is what the people of Iran want because they have spent decades being oppressed and denied the most basic of human rights. The rest of the world will also benefit from this regime\u2019s collapse, especially Iran\u2019s neighbours that have been terrorised for some time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
