{"id":26227,"date":"2019-05-20T18:54:41","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T17:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/26227-iran-s-regime-sentences-4-mek-activists-to-execution-imprisonment"},"modified":"2023-01-20T06:34:25","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T05:34:25","slug":"iran-s-regime-sentences-4-mek-activists-to-execution-imprisonment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iran-s-regime-sentences-4-mek-activists-to-execution-imprisonment\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran&#8217;s Regime Sentences 4 MEK Activists to Execution, Imprisonment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April\" class=\" size-full wp-image-53161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/05\/Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April.jpg\" alt=\"Iran&#039;s Regime Sentences 4 MEK Activists to Execution, Imprisonment\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Irans_Human_Rights_Abuses_in_April-696x464.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By\u00a0Mohammad Sadat Khansari<\/p>\n<p>Tehran\u2019s Revolutionary Court on Sunday sentenced four men affiliated with the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PMOI or Mujahedin-e Khalq, MEK<\/a>) to prison and or death.<\/p>\n<p>Branch 28 of Tehran\u2019s Revolutionary Court headed by notorious judge, Mohammad Moghiseh, sentenced 34-year-old Abdullah Ghasempour to death and eight years behind bars on charges including \u201cwaging war on God,\u201d \u201cassembly and collusion,\u201d and \u201cmembership in the MEK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court said that Abdullah Ghasempour had set fire to a paramilitary Bassij base, filmed the event and sent it to the MEK media. The Bassij is affiliated to the regime\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), which was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department last month.<\/p>\n<p>Three other men, Mohammad Hossein Ghasempour (Abdullah\u2019s brother), 32, Alireza Habibian, 30, and Akbar Dalir, 34, were sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison each for \u201cassembly and collusion.\u201d<br \/>The trio are currently held in Ward 4 of Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison.<\/p>\n<p>All four had been arrested on May 21, 2018, in Tehran and were transferred to the notorious Evin Prison. They were kept in a state of limbo for nearly a year before being tried.<\/p>\n<p>The National Council of Resistance of Iran in a statement on May 17, 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/human-rights\/26217-iran-the-names-of-11-political-prisoners-arrested-in-late-april-and-may\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> the names of 11 political prisoners arrested in the past month.<\/p>\n<p>The NCRI said: \u201cThe transfer of Hash al-Shabi forces from Iraq to the flood-hit areas, launching night patrols and \u201cneighborhood-based security patrols\u201d, called the Razavioun, and the new wave of arrests throughout the country, especially among the supporters of the MEK, are part of the repressive measures of religious fascism to prevent popular uprisings. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the Iranian regime\u2019s intelligence officials announced that dozens of the PMOI (MEK) supporters were arrested last year.<\/p>\n<p>On April 19, Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-resistance\/26096-iran-futile-efforts-of-the-mullahs-minister-of-intelligence-to-boost-the-morale-of-the-regime-forces-after-the-irgc-terrorist-designation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> the arrests of 116 teams associated to the MEK in the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the Director General of the intelligence ministry in East Azerbaijan Province on April 24, 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/24\/110-people-prosecuted-for-communicating-iranian-opposition-group-pmoi-mek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> that there had been 110 arrests and encounters with the Mojahedin in the province in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The NCRI, however, said that the actual number of arrests is much higher, with the IRGC, IRGC intelligence directorate, law enforcement, and prosecutors, carried out separate arrests.<\/p>\n<p>The names of 29 detainees announced by the MEK are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Farshad Etemadifar, 24, Gachsaran, June 2018<br \/>Omid Javid Nasab, 20, Gachsaran, June 2018<br \/>Farshad, 21, Gachsaran, June 2018<br \/>Farshid Baharan, 21, Yasouj, Khordad 2018<br \/>Mehrzad Baharan, 27, Yasouj, June 2018<br \/>Amir Ramin Fard, 38, Tabriz, June 2018<br \/>Shahyad Ghanavati, 32, Ahvaz, September 2018<br \/>Afshin Barzegar Jamshidi, 29, September 2018<br \/>Majid Mahmoudian, 37, Tabriz, September 2018<br \/>Mohammad Reza Hasan Maleki, 33, Semnan, October 2018<br \/>Zarir Hadipour, 56, Kohdasht, October 2018<br \/>Farhang Khorshidi, 41, Kohdasht, October 2018<br \/>Alireza Barzegar, 40, Karaj, October 2018<br \/>Pouriya Vahidian, Tehran, November 2018<br \/>Manoochehr Farhadi, 50, Isfahan, February 2019<br \/>Seyyed Mehdi Vafaie, 35, Tehran, February 2019<br \/>Hossein Noori Derakhshan, 36, Tehran, February 2019<br \/>Hamid Kashani, Ghaemshahr, February 2019<br \/>Vahid Bani Ameriyan, 26, Tehran, March 2019<br \/>Pooya Ghobadi, 26, Tehran, March 2019<br \/>Sina Zahiri, 36, Tehran, March 2019<br \/>Mohsen Farid, 44, Tehran, March 2019<br \/>And 24.
