NCRI – Despite frantic attempts by the mullahs’ regime to have people vote in the Assembly of Experts elections, all indications show that people have completely ignored the sham elections and responded positively to the call by the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi to boycott it. <\/p>\n
Yesterday, the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who has become furious at the people’s decision to boycott the elections, said, “The enemies of the Iranian people are as usual trying to discourage people from turning out at the ballot boxes… Those who claim to support democracy and popular rule are trying to decrease voter turnout … so that they can accuse the Islamic Republic of Iran. Now, it is the people’s turn to perfect this process by their presence and determination at the polling stations.” <\/p>\n
He also pleaded for people to turn out at the elections and said, “God willing, the people will take part in the elections resolutely, with complete motivation, and so as to worship to get closer to God,” (state-run news agency ISNA, December 14).<\/p>\n
The regime’s Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said, “250,000 agents will be responsible for security at election sites.” The chief of the State Security Forces Brigadier General Ismail Ahmadi-Moqaddam said, “On election day, all SSF personnel will be on alert and duty-leaves will be cancelled.”
The announcement of a “state of alert” and the allocation of many units of the paramilitary Bassij and Revolutionary Guards Corps to provide security during the elections are indications of the mullahs’ increasing fear of popular demonstrations and uprisings against them. <\/p>\n
As the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect said on October 11, 2006, “The regime benefited the most from the circumstances after the occupation of Kuwait by Iraq and the disruption of regional balance and the September 11 tragedy, buying itself more than 15 years. Nonetheless, its Achilles’ heal is exposed and it shows an irrational reaction when it comes to the issues of free elections and human rights as well as the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, resistance and popular freedom-seeking activities. This is because the medieval regime is aware of the level of the people’s hatred and anger towards it. Therefore, it is unable to retreat and is trying to transform Iraq and Lebanon into its frontlines and acquire nuclear weapons in order to prevent its inevitable collapse.”
