Since September 16, as the news made rounds about the tragic death of a 22-year-old girl in Tehran, once again, the world learned about the restive country through stories other than the usual nuclear-terrorism saga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mahsa was the victim of the brutal morality police in Tehran. She was from the Kurdish ethnic minority in the town of Saqqez in northwestern Iran. Her name made headlines across the world, with over 8 million posts on social media, and it triggered a new wave of protests across three provinces and six cities so far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mahsa was arrested on September 13 and beaten by the regime\u2019s morality police under the pretext of \u201cmal-veiling.\u201d She went into a coma for three days.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> under the mullahs where you can get beaten into a coma by regime&#39;s Fashion police or Morality police.<\/p>\n<p>Zhina Amini (Mahsa) went into a 3rd level coma after being batoned by the Guidance Patrol. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VDs24ZvoPT\">https:\/\/t.co\/VDs24ZvoPT<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FreeIran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FreeIran<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mZrQEzhoHC\">pic.twitter.com\/mZrQEzhoHC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Women&#39;s Committee NCRI (@womenncri) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/womenncri\/status\/1570558072430694401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 15, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Perhaps Mahsa knew little that her life and death would light a fire under Iran\u2019s brew of social anger. Iran inhabits tens of millions of girls and women like Mahsa, who have been oppressed by the misogynous regime and living a life without the merest glimmer of hope. The clerical regime has murdered tens of thousands of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2021\/11\/25\/crimes-against-pmoi-women\/\" rel=\"noopener\">female dissidents<\/a> in its dungeons and at the gallows in the past four decades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Her picture and name widely circulated on social media and have been the world\u2019s top-trending topic in the last few days. From international outlets to celebrities and artists, all expressed their support for Mahsa and all Iranian women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Social media was not the only place of protest. People soon took to the streets, and the protests became a scene of confrontation between people and the regime\u2019s forces. Kian Derakhashan, a young protester, was shot dead, and hundreds were wounded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The latest reports from Kurdistan, Tehran, and Karaj indicate people chanting slogans against the regime in its entirety and tearing down posters of the mullahs\u2019 supreme leader Ali Khamenei and his eliminated terror mastermind <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/who-was-the-vicious-criminal-qassem-soleimani\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Qassem Soleimani<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Iran, which has been the scene of eight major uprisings in recent years, is suffering a declining economy stunted by monopolistic policies and systematic corruption, \u00a0ailing infrastructure, and high-paying jobs that go to the privileged state-affiliated elites.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In its latest reports, the regime\u2019s Supreme National Defense University acknowledged that \u201cThree of four Iranians participate in protests.\u201d\u00a0 After examining the recent major uprisings in 2018 and November 2019, it concluded that \u201cWith the continuation of the economic crisis and the sharp increase in the feeling of injustice and inequality in society, if uprisings occur again, nearly 75% of people will participate in the protests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cAll these factors have completely changed aspects of Iranian society, and along with the two protest waves of January 2018 and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019\/\" rel=\"noopener\">November 2019<\/a>, the suspicion that Iranian society is on the threshold of political collapse has been strengthened.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I salute the Iranian people and youths risen up in Sanandaj and Divandareh, chanting \u201cLong live freedom,\u201d and confronting the clerical regime\u2019s repressive forces. They protest Khamenei-Raisi\u2019s oppression and vicious murder of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MahsaAmini?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MahsaAmini<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1571851298336608256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 19, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The SNDU is not the only state-affiliated organization that warned the regime. Iran\u2019s state media and officials\u2019 speeches are riddled with warnings about the volatile society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cI am making an official announcement\u2026 we have reached the end of the road, meaning we are completely cut off from the people and the people have lost all hope in us. We have reached the very end. We are forced to push through our measures by resorting to force,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/article\/iran-regime-officials-voice-concerns-about-troubling-road-ahead\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Rasul Montajabnia<\/a>, a former top official, warned on September 12.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mahsa\u2019s brutal murder is neither the first nor the last crime of the genocidal regime. The current wave of protests is also not the Iranian people\u2019s first or last effort to topple the regime. But the society\u2019s reaction to Mahsa Amini\u2019s murder showed that the nation\u2019s rage against the entire ruling establishment is far more profound than a temporary emotional act.
