The uprising was reported in at least <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-iran-protest\/iran-the-nationwide-uprising-spreads-to-146-cities-in-31-provinces\/\" rel=\"noopener\">145 cities in all 31 provinces<\/a> of the country, including 16 universities, by Sunday, September 25. On some days during this period, at least 30 locations in Tehran alone were the scene of protests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Until now, more than 180 demonstrators have been killed due to shootings by the regime&#8217;s repressive forces. Hundreds have been injured, and more than 8,000 have been arrested to date.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In 9 days of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a>, 180 laid their lives for freedom. 8,000 were arrested. The people of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> give life to the UDHR by resisting a regime that tramples fundamental human rights. I urge the international community to condemn the clerical regime and support protesters. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vp69V5p8rG\">pic.twitter.com\/vp69V5p8rG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1574088414634573824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 25, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As the protests continued and hit back against the reign of suppression, families of detainees converged at the gate of the notorious <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1573688011832819715?s=20&amp;t=bS9pjsTUp2VttqCD7wXsOA\" rel=\"noopener\">Evin prison<\/a>, demanding the release of their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">People, particularly the youth, have faced off and confronted the regime&#8217;s brutal suppression. In dozens of cases, youths&#8217; counterattacks released people who were arrested by the police force or plainclothes mobs (Basij militias affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or the Ministry of Intelligence). Several Basij members were killed during the clashes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">While the murder of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the so-called &#8220;Morality Police&#8221; provided the initial spark for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLqrxnz6Vvh41w3Lt7nbv7OJw_ufCVWag1\" rel=\"noopener\">protests<\/a>, from the very first day, people&#8217;s demands went beyond this tragic development, with protesters calling for the overthrow of the regime in its entirety. According to reports, protests have spread to at least 146 cities and all 31 provinces throughout the country. Over 180 people have been killed by the regime\u2019s repressive security forces, with hundreds, if not thousands, as the Revolutionary Guards and state police resort to brutal measures aimed at quelling the protests. Sources also report over 8,000 arrested protesters. In Tehran, protesters resumed their rallies in Narmak District and chanted, \u201cProud Iranians! Support! Support!\u201d In Tehran\u2019s Sattarkhan district, protests resumed with chants of \u201cDeath to the dictator!\u201d In Tehran University, students resumed their rally at night and called for the release of detained protesters. They chanted slogans demanding freedom and vowed to take back Iran from the mullahs. Security forces were not able to disperse them. There are reports of many students having been arrested by security forces, and the regime security apparatus is doing house by house searches to identify and arrest protesters. Students have been especially active in this round of anti-regime protests. These protests began following the death of Mahsa Amini. Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, a 22-year-old woman from the city of Saqqez in Kurdistan Province, western Iran, who traveled to Tehran with her family, was arrested on Tuesday, September 13, at the entry of Haqqani Highway by the regime\u2019s so-called \u201cGuidance Patrol\u201d and transferred to the \u201cMoral Security\u201d agency. Protesting her arrest, Amini was severely beaten by the security forces in a van and was taken to the capital\u2019s Kasra Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. After initial examinations, doctors declared that Amini had suffered a stroke and was brain dead at the same time. Amini died on Friday, September 16. Shortly after, protests broke out in several cities, including Tehran and Saqqez. The protests have continued and expanded since. On Sunday, protesters in Zahedan were setting tires on fire and blocking roads. In Sanandaj, thick plumes of cloud were rising in the air and gunshots could be heard across the city at dusk. The regime\u2019s crackdown on protests in Kurdish cities has been especially harsh in the past days. Yet, people continue to come to the streets every night to call for regime change and an end to the mullahs\u2019 rule. Protests continued in several districts of Tehran late into the night. In Narmak District, protesters were chanting, \u201cThis is the last message! Our target is the regime in its entirety!\u201d In Ekbatan, the regime dispatched the much-hated Basij forces to disperse protesters. Protesters resisted and chanted, \u201cBasiji get lost!\u201d In Sattarkhan, one of the most active areas of protests in previous nights, the people gathered again and resumed their rallies. The protesters were chanting, \u201cDeath to the dictator!\u201d Protests were also reported in Ashrafi Esfahani Expressway and Punak District, where protesters were chanting, \u201cFreedom! Freedom! Freedom!\u201d Protests also continued in other cities across the country. In Sanandaj, protesters were chanting, \u201cDeath to Khamenei!\u201d Other cities where videos have been obtained from include Saravan, Tabriz, and Shiraz. In Zahedan, protesters are taking to arms to fight back against regime security forces who first opened fire on them. \u201cDeath to Khamenei! Baluchistan stands with Kurdistan!\u201d protesters say. *** Content on the PMOI\/MEK&#039;s official YouTube channel is not subject to copyright if the source is mentioned ***\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\">Features of the protests:<\/h3>\n<p>1- Protests have continued despite the regime&#8217;s brutal repression and widespread arrests.<\/p>\n<p>2- The protests are nationwide. The cities and provinces that were largely quiet during the 2009 and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019-update\/\" rel=\"noopener\">2019 uprisings<\/a> have now risen up with unified slogans, demanding the regime&#8217;s downfall in its entirety, chanting their slogans in the most straightforward form, and focusing on the highest authority of the regime, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n<p>3- Simultaneous protests in large cities and in Tehran, where sometimes 30 locations were impacted &#8211; in the north, south, center, east, and west of the city &#8211; all express similar demands. This is the first time that all parts of Tehran have been involved in an uprising. The capital has a population of 10 million people, with broad class disparities and economic and social inequalities. The current situation shows that the uprising is supported not just by one or a few select social sectors but rather by the entire society in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>4- A wide range of social groups are participating in demonstrations across the country, including the underprivileged classes, which were once falsely viewed as the social base of the regime, as well as the middle class and intellectuals. The regime celebrated the anniversary of the anti-monarchical revolution in February at a time when after ruling for 43 years with an iron fist, it is facing crises from all directions, most notably at home. Iran has been the scene of eight uprisings since 2018 with protesters openly calling for the regime\u2019s overthrow. Just in 2021, there were three major uprisings. Protests by various social strata including teachers and pensioners have become a daily occurrence. To deal with a rapidly deteriorating situation, the regime has intensified its repression and turned protests into a bloodbath. The conventional wisdom is that the more intense the repressive measures adopted by the regime, the greater the atmosphere of fear in society. Yet, Iran in 2022 the situation is quite the opposite. The impressive increase in the number of the Resistance Units, affiliated with People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK), attests to this reality. The Resistance Units\u2019 objective is to act as a sledgehammer and crack the wall of repression and direct and pave the way for nationwide uprisings. Only a glance at the first two months of 2022 shows the growth and impact of Resistance Units in Iranian society that has turned tide against the regime. On January 5, 202, the regime unveiled a six meters tall statue of Qassem Soleimani, the eliminated commander of the IRGC\u2019s terrorist Quds Force, in Shahrekord\u2019s, main square. The statue was set ablaze the same night by the Resistance Units. On January 27, supporters of the Mojahedin Khalq and the Resistance Units disrupted the broadcast in 25 state television and radio networks by airing the images of Iranian Resistance\u2019s leader Massoud Rajavi and the NCRI\u2019s President-elect Maryam Rajavi on several national television channels. They were also able to destroy more than 600 radio and television servers, sending shock waves throughout Iran In a frenzied reaction, the regime\u2019s officials vowed revenge. After a few weeks, the regime has failed to fully recover its systems. On February 9, the Resistance Units seized the control of the loudspeakers in Mashhad&#039;s largest bazaar, airing the chants of &quot;Death to Khamenei&quot; and &quot;Viva Rajavi.&quot; On February 10, amid the regime\u2019s fanfare over the 43rd anniversary of its rule, the Resistance Units simultaneously seized the control of loudspeakers in shopping malls and public venues in four cities, Shahr-e Rey, Sarasiab, Fardis, and Shahriyar (west and south of Tehran), to broadcast the chants of \u201cdeath to Khamenei, viva Rajavi\u201d and \u201cNeither the crown nor the turban, mullahs your days are numbered.\u201d On February 15, in a coordinated campaign, the Resistance Units set on fire to the government installed banners containing the images of Ali Khamenei, Khomeini, and Qassem Soleimani in various cities. Meanwhile, daily informative campaigns such as posting the pictures of Massoud and Maryam Rajavi in public places in different cities of Iran have continued. The presence of the Resistance Units and MEK supporters in Iran is so prevalent that even regime officials have long warned about it, voicing concern over the existential threat these units pose to the regime. Most are students, employees, workers, or have other occupations. They are not covert forces. The presence of the members of the Resistance Units in their respective communities affords them the opportunity to have the basic necessities and, at the same time, the capacity and flexibility to regroup and reconstitute their teams if required.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; In the past few years, hundreds of members of Resistance Units and thousands of other people have been arrested due to their connection with Resistance Units. Some have been subjected to the most severe forms of torture, while others have been sentenced to long-term prison and even execution. But despite the severe repression and widespread arrests, the regime has not been able to eradicate the Resistance Units. On the contrary, the trend of the formation of Resistance Units has seen a rise throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Resistance Units, initially teams of several people, have become larger groups and units in the process of their growth and evolution. Resistance Units have been actively present in the protests and played a leading role in many areas. The slogans of these protests, which were fundamentally unified throughout the country, are an indication of the uprising&#8217;s organized nature. Such organization is one of the primary functions of Resistance Units.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; As part of its ploys, the regime sent paramilitary Basij Forces to infiltrate protesters as ordinary individuals, tried to create divisions among protesters using diversionary slogans, and attempted to focus demands on civic matters. Resistance Units were able to neutralize such plots and focused slogans sharply on the imperative to overthrow the regime while also condemning all kinds of other dictatorships. They also expelled the regime&#8217;s lackeys from the protesters&#8217; ranks after identifying them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Another function of Resistance Units was to confront the oppressive forces of the regime, specifically the &#8220;plainclothes&#8221; agents who played a crucial role in suppressing the protests of 2019 and 2017. Their activities, especially during the past year, have had a serious impact on cracking the wall of repression throughout the country. Among such activities was the torching of the statue of Qassem Soleimani, the former Quds Force commander, only a few hours after its unveiling. Following this bold action, regime authorities reacted with desperation and acknowledgment of the fact that Resistance Units are becoming a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Burning and targeting the regime&#8217;s centers of repression, which are highly despised in society, provided an inspiration and a practical model for many young people during the recent protests.
