In a statement on October 5, the Parliamentary Committee for a Democratic Iran (CPID), which brings together members of the French National Assembly from different political tendencies, supported the nationwide Iran protests<\/a>.<\/p>\n The statement condemned the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman, following her arrest by the morality police.<\/p>\n While referring to the protests following Mahsa\u2019s death, the French MPs underlined that despite the violent repression, Internet blackouts, and disruption of social networks, the Iranian people are once again mobilizing to obtain their most basic human rights.<\/p>\n The signatories of this statement also hailed the Iranian women\u2019s leading and inspiring<\/a> role in protests.\u00a0CPID also pointed to the worldwide demonstrations to support Iranian women in their struggle for their rights and to denounce the brutality of the regime\u2019s repression.<\/p>\n Regarding the extremely violent suppression of the civilian population during the demonstrations, CPID called on the international community to strongly condemn the despotic and misogynistic theocracy in power in Iran and to open an international investigation to shed light on the deaths of many demonstrators and the ongoing arbitrary arrests in the country.<\/p>\n It is worth noting that according to the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization<\/a> of Iran (PMOI\/MEK), over 400 protesters have been killed by the security forces so far, and over 20,000 arrested.<\/p>\n The MEK\u2019s Social Headquarters published a detailed report, shedding light on how suppressive forces of the Iranian regime have targeted protesters, specifically those who have been filming the uprising in universities and different locations across Iran.<\/p>\n According to the report, hundreds of people who were taking videos of the uprisings have been arrested.<\/p>\n Referring to the regime\u2019s crackdown and human rights abuses<\/a>, the CPID underlined that diplomacy, as important as it is, must not overshadow the commitment of France and the European Union in defense of human rights.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t
