Their colleagues in the Abadan oil refinery also joined them on Tuesday. Four weeks into the major Iran protests, the oil and petrochemical workers\u2019 strike is considered a turning point.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This is not the first time oil workers, mainly contract oil workers, have gone on strike. But previously, they staged protests and demanded their rights. Their demonstrations were quashed, and many deprived workers were arrested or laid off. Yet, Iranian oil workers joined the nationwide uprising and popular <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/will-iran-oil-worker-strike-impact-global-supply-chain-1750714\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cregime change\u201d<\/a> demand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Initially sparked due to the death of a 22-years-old Kurdish girl in police custody, Iran protests have now morphed into a revolution, with people demanding nothing less than regime change. Protests have persisted despite the regime\u2019s heavy crackdown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The first turning point of Iran\u2019s uprising was Saturday\u2019s protests, with students joining them. These protests happened a few days after the bloody crackdown on innocent prayers in Zahedan and after the regime\u2019s supreme leader Ali Khamenei threatened Iranians while praising his oppressive forces.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Oil workers in Abadan and Assaluyeh have joined <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a>. Strikes paralyze the predatory regime, indicating the people\u2019s determination to end religious fascism and establish a democratic republic based on separation of religion and state and equal rights for all Iranians. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ipGLZ31CVl\">pic.twitter.com\/ipGLZ31CVl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1579938643631779841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 11, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Iran\u2019s uprising experienced what many consider its second turning point when the contract oil workers began their strike for several reasons:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>Considered the regime\u2019s main source of income, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/economy\/iran-regimes-oil-export-conundrum\/\" rel=\"noopener\">oil industry<\/a>\u2019s shutdown or partial shutdown delivers a major blow to Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy. In other words, workers control the regime\u2019s most important economic lifeline.<\/li>\n<li>Iran\u2019s workers are among the most oppressed and underprivileged sectors of society. The regime\u2019s corruption and ineptitude have turned Iran\u2019s society, and particularly the workers\u2019 community, into a powder keg. Iran has nearly 15 million workers, who form a large part of the population with their families. Thus, workers joining the uprising seriously threaten the ruling theocracy.<\/li>\n<li>These workers have nothing to lose due to the regime\u2019s corruption and plunder of their wealth. Their participation in the current uprising means protests have entered a new era.<\/li>\n<li>Iranian oil workers have their unions and are among the most organized sectors due to their <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/order-from-chaos\/2019\/03\/05\/what-irans-1979-revolution-meant-for-us-and-global-oil-markets\/\" rel=\"noopener\">history of defiance<\/a>. Thus, they could more easily organize protests and strike, and the rapid spread of strikes is a testament to this fact.<\/li>\n<li>It is worth noting that during the last months of the Shah\u2019s regime, the Iranian oil workers\u2019 strike in 1979 delivered an irreparable blow to the regime. The international community did not sanction the Shah\u2019s regime, yet the workers\u2019 strike seriously damaged its economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In a nutshell, the strike by contract oil workers reaffirmed the Iranian people\u2019s unwavering resolve to overthrow the ruling theocracy at any cost. The regime plunders the Iranian nation\u2019s wealth to prolong its rule through the export of terrorism abroad and domestic oppression.
