It showcased people\u2019s determination for regime change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/parents-tehran-schoolgirls-dispersed-by-teargas-twitter-2022-10-24\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Bahdori-Jahromi\u2019s visits<\/a> were held after various security apparatus stationed in Tehran\u2019s Khaje-Nasir and Qom Universities took preventive measures. They had tried to intimidate students and filled the conference room with regime supporters who had entered those universities on special privileges for state-affiliated thugs.<br \/>\nHowever, Iranian students neither fell for Jahromi\u2019s pathetic gestures nor bowed when security forces showed teeth. They stormed the meeting place in both universities and chanted anti-regime slogans highlighting that the university is no place for the \u201cgovernment of murderers\u201d and its spokesperson.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">October 24 &#8211; Tehran, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> <br \/>Gov. spox Ali Bahadori Jahromi visited Khajeh Nasir University today. Students chanted:<br \/>-We don&#39;t want a corrupt system, nor a killer guest!<br \/>-Spox get lost!<br \/>-Death to the mullahs&#39; regime!<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranRevolution2022?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranRevolution2022<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/%D8%A2%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%AF%DB%8C_%D8%A2%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%AF%DB%8C_%D8%A2%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%AF%DB%8C?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#\u0622\u0632\u0627\u062f\u06cc_\u0622\u0632\u0627\u062f\u06cc_\u0622\u0632\u0627\u062f\u06cc<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8eEAcy9wD7\">pic.twitter.com\/8eEAcy9wD7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; People&#39;s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) (@Mojahedineng) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mojahedineng\/status\/1584503720577880064?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 24, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Since their creation, Iranian universities have been home to Iran\u2019s intellectuals who act as trailblazers in the struggle for freedom. On December 7, 1953, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/pages\/frontline\/tehranbureau\/2009\/12\/16-azar-irans-student-day.html\" rel=\"noopener\">three students<\/a> at Tehran University were killed by the Shah\u2019s police and became the symbol of the Iranian university movement, turning the university into the \u201cbastion of freedom.\u201d Their anniversary has been honored by Iranians ever since.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Founders of Iran\u2019s most prominent opposition groups under Shah\u2019s regime, such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\" rel=\"noopener\">Mujahedin-e Khalq<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iran-nabard.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Fadaiyan-e-Khalq<\/a>, were university students who paved the way for Iran\u2019s revolution in 1979.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"iran-tehran-university-1978\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-265937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-1978.jpg\" alt=\"iran-tehran-university-1978\" width=\"480\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-1978.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-1978-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-1978-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sensing the danger, Ruhollah Khomeini, the Iranian regime\u2019s founder, called the universities a \u201csource of corruption.\u201d He soon initiated the so-called \u201ccultural revolution\u201d and brutally oppressed dissident students and teachers across Iran. His successors sent their thugs under the banner of \u201cunity between religious seminaries and universities\u201d to universities across Iran. Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy also stationed several security apparatuses inside universities, handpicked teachers, and laid off dissident professors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Yet, these actions failed to stifle the voice of dissent in Iranian universities. In July 1999, brave Iranian university students <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/article\/remembering-the-historical-uprising-of-tehran-students-against-the-iranian-regime\/\" rel=\"noopener\">took to the streets<\/a> and clashed with security forces. A movement that started in the Tehran University Campus soon gained nationwide traction and shook the ruling establishment. The incident forced the so-called \u201creformist\u201d President Mohammad Khatami to greenlight the brutal crackdown on students, a move that became the start of his demise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nevertheless, the incident prompted the clerical regime to deploy the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and Basij paramilitary members to universities, working as security agents, students, or lecturers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Until the first major series of protests across <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/News\/middle-east\/2018\/03\/12\/Iran-s-Basij-Force-attack-students-protesting-imprisonment-of-classmates\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran in 2018<\/a>, the regime almost had universities under its control via excessive violence and crackdown on the students&#8217; unions. In 2018, university students in Tehran acted as sledgehammers, breaking the atmosphere of fear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">By the popular slogan of \u201cReformist, Principalist, the game is over\u201d, they delivered the last nail to the coffin of \u201creformism\u201d the regime had used for too long to deceive the Iranian society and the international community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"iran-tehran-university-2018\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-265938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-2018.jpg\" alt=\"iran-tehran-university-2018\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-2018.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-2018-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/iran-tehran-university-2018-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">University students once again played a leading role during the glorious November 2019 uprising. Despite the regime\u2019s heavy quash of that uprising and the killing of over 1500 protesters, Iranian university students took to the street in January 2020 following the downing of a passenger jet by the IRGC and called for regime change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">After oppressing protests in 2020, mullahs found a new ally: the Covid-19 pandemic. Calling the deadly virus, a \u201ctest\u201d and \u201cblessing,\u201d the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Khamenei <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2021\/01\/08\/iran-khamenei-bans-us-uk-coronavirus-vaccines\/\" rel=\"noopener\">banned the import<\/a> of credible coronavirus vaccines and increased the death toll through deliberate inaction and systematic cover-up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Now, as protests expand across Iran, universities and their students have risen up and rightfully earned their place as the \u201cbastion of freedom.\u201d They hold daily protests despite the regime\u2019s severe crackdown and zealously call for regime change. High school students are also following in the footsteps of university students. These brave young men and women inspire people across Iran, and the world community is amazed by this much courage and tenacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-264584\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown.jpg\" alt=\"iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown\" width=\"1000\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown-768x440.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown-150x86.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/iran-protests-security-forces-crackdown-696x399.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As knowledge demands responsibility, Iranian students are shouldering the challenges and are paying the price for a future in the making. After dealing with the most active state sponsor of terrorism and Islamic extremism, world leaders are aware of what is at stake. The international community shall honor its moral and political obligations by recognizing the Iranian people\u2019s right to self-defense and self-determination of their future.
