The Intelligence Ministry even arrested her mother, <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2019\/07\/11\/raheleh-ahmadi-arrested-forty-days-after-daughters-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Raheleh Ahmadi<\/a>, to bring further pressure and force her to force her make false confessions.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Kord Afshari was <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2018\/10\/24\/young-women-arrested-receive-jail-sentences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first arrested<\/a> on August 2, 2018 during street protests front of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/index.php\/2019\/08\/28\/saba-kord-afshari-sentenced-to-24-years-for-protesting-compulsory-hijab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daneshjoo (Student) Park in Tehran<\/a>. She was taken to Qarchak Prison and held in a state of limbo. She was then <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2018\/10\/19\/yasamin-ariani-saba-kord-sentenced-one-year-jail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sentenced to one year<\/a> in prison for \u201cdisruption of public order\u201d and was transferred to the women\u2019s ward of Evin Prison.<\/p>\n<p>Saba Kord Afshari was released in February 2019, but was <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2019\/06\/03\/saba-kord-afshari-rearrested-atena-daemi-incriminated-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested again<\/a> on June 1 and has been held in prison since then.<\/p>\n<p>Branch 26 of Tehran\u2019s Revolutionary Court held her trial on August 19, 2019. The charges leveled against her included \u201cpropaganda against the State\u201d and \u201cassociation and collusion aimed at national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her sentence was increased by one-half because she faced \u201cnumerous charges\u201d and had a \u201cprevious record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The maximum sentenced to be implemented for her is 15 years for \u201cpromoting corruption and prostitution by removing her veil and walking in the streets without the veil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saba Kord Afshari was taken to Qarchak Prison of Varamin in June. Then, on July 2, she was taken to the Ward 2A in Evin Prison which belongs to the Intelligence Department of the Revolutionary Guards, and put under pressure to make forced confessions.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, she was returned to Qarchak and eventually transferred to the women\u2019s ward of Evin on August 13, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, nine civil activists including three women were sentenced to a total of 54 years in prison on Monday, August 26, 2019. The women were <a href=\"https:\/\/women.ncr-iran.org\/2017\/08\/21\/iran-shima-babaii-released-on-bail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shima Babaii<\/a>, Mojgan Lali, and Shaghayegh Mahaki.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the three women were sentenced to six years in prison.
