Amid the widespread protests, this statement has raised several speculations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cIf suspicious communications are established with you, requesting actions such as carrying out sabotage actions, setting fire to places, signs, and symbols or writing graffiti, taking photos and filming specific military and religious places, or holding gatherings and demonstrations and so, (be aware that) the MEK has established these communications. Therefore, inform the nearest IRGC intelligence unit or the News Headquarters of the IRGC Intelligence Organization,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> mullahs&#39; different apparatus of intelligence issue warnings against tuning in to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MEK?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MEK<\/a> guidance and directives during <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranRevolution2022?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranRevolution2022<\/a> . <br \/>Do you go out and put your life in danger upon a simple telephone call? <br \/>No, unless the call&#39;s from someone you absolutely trust. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EXkCE72gFA\">pic.twitter.com\/EXkCE72gFA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Aladdin Touran (@AladdinTouran) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AladdinTouran\/status\/1591359154286989312?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 12, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Since the beginning of the nationwide uprising, authorities have expressed their fear of the MEK and its impact on society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cYesterday, one of my friends told me something which left me in pain. He said he met one of these rioters on the streets and asked whether he hated the Islamic Republic more or the hypocrites. The guy responded to my friend, \u2018first, their name is not the hypocrites. It\u2019s called the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK). Secondly, what have they done wrong?\u201d the state-run Ofogh TV network quoted Hossein Sazoor, and state-affiliated eulogist, on November 5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Some other officials, like Esmail Khatib, the Minister of Intelligence and Security, acknowledged that protests are organized and led by well-organized groups.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThese recent riots had a complicated plot, unlike the past scattered protests. Small groups would instigate these protests with timely and bold actions. They were fully organized and guided. Interestingly, once the demonstration initiated, these units immediately left the scene to start another riot in another part,\u201d Khatib said in an interview with the website of the regime\u2019s supreme leader Ali Khamenei on November 9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For many years, Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy tried to paint the Iranian opposition as a \u201cfringe grouplet\u201d with \u201clittle to no popular support.\u201d This demonization campaign went hand in hand with the brutal repression of the MEK supporters, such as the mass executions in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">But soon after the first major Iran protests in 2018, Khamenei acknowledged MEK\u2019s role in organizing anti-regime demonstrations. Since then, Khamenei and other top officials have warned each other of the MEK\u2019s \u201cdanger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">With the growing popularity of social media apps, the clerical regime\u2019s one-sided propaganda ended. The regime celebrated the anniversary of the anti-monarchical revolution in February at a time when after ruling for 43 years with an iron fist, it is facing crises from all directions, most notably at home. Iran has been the scene of eight uprisings since 2018 with protesters openly calling for the regime\u2019s overthrow. Just in 2021, there were three major uprisings. Protests by various social strata including teachers and pensioners have become a daily occurrence. To deal with a rapidly deteriorating situation, the regime has intensified its repression and turned protests into a bloodbath. The conventional wisdom is that the more intense the repressive measures adopted by the regime, the greater the atmosphere of fear in society. Yet, Iran in 2022 the situation is quite the opposite. The impressive increase in the number of the Resistance Units, affiliated with People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK), attests to this reality. The Resistance Units\u2019 objective is to act as a sledgehammer and crack the wall of repression and direct and pave the way for nationwide uprisings. Only a glance at the first two months of 2022 shows the growth and impact of Resistance Units in Iranian society that has turned tide against the regime. On January 5, 202, the regime unveiled a six meters tall statue of Qassem Soleimani, the eliminated commander of the IRGC\u2019s terrorist Quds Force, in Shahrekord\u2019s, main square. The statue was set ablaze the same night by the Resistance Units. On January 27, supporters of the Mojahedin Khalq and the Resistance Units disrupted the broadcast in 25 state television and radio networks by airing the images of Iranian Resistance\u2019s leader Massoud Rajavi and the NCRI\u2019s President-elect Maryam Rajavi on several national television channels. They were also able to destroy more than 600 radio and television servers, sending shock waves throughout Iran In a frenzied reaction, the regime\u2019s officials vowed revenge. After a few weeks, the regime has failed to fully recover its systems. On February 9, the Resistance Units seized the control of the loudspeakers in Mashhad&#039;s largest bazaar, airing the chants of &quot;Death to Khamenei&quot; and &quot;Viva Rajavi.&quot; On February 10, amid the regime\u2019s fanfare over the 43rd anniversary of its rule, the Resistance Units simultaneously seized the control of loudspeakers in shopping malls and public venues in four cities, Shahr-e Rey, Sarasiab, Fardis, and Shahriyar (west and south of Tehran), to broadcast the chants of \u201cdeath to Khamenei, viva Rajavi\u201d and \u201cNeither the crown nor the turban, mullahs your days are numbered.\u201d On February 15, in a coordinated campaign, the Resistance Units set on fire to the government installed banners containing the images of Ali Khamenei, Khomeini, and Qassem Soleimani in various cities. Meanwhile, daily informative campaigns such as posting the pictures of Massoud and Maryam Rajavi in public places in different cities of Iran have continued. The presence of the Resistance Units and MEK supporters in Iran is so prevalent that even regime officials have long warned about it, voicing concern over the existential threat these units pose to the regime. Besides, if the MEK lacks popular support, who would accept to carry out their demands over a phone call or by a message on social media, especially when doing so would have heavy consequences for them?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tehran has a long history of failed efforts to fight the rising popularity of its viable alternative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In 1981, the regime\u2019s then-supreme leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, desperately asked people to \u201cspy\u201d on the MEK. Calling himself and his regime \u201cIslam,\u201d he said: \u201cWhen Islam is in danger, you should preserve it even by lying. To preserve the holy state, you are even allowed to drink alcohol, and you must lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Khomeini finally found the solution in massacring tens of thousands of MEK members and supporters, such as executing over 30,000 political prisoners in a few months in 1988. But what could Khamenei do now?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Issuing an anti-MEK statement wouldn\u2019t save the day for the regime. After four decades of oppression, Iran\u2019s volatile society yearns for change. Indeed, it approaches a movement that advocates that change and rejects any return to the past dictatorships or the current religious fascism.
