In some towns, defiant youth attacked the local offices of some of the statement\u2019s signatories to convey the message that their request for crimes against humanity must not go unpunished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The volatile society\u2019s reaction had a significant impact on the ruling theocracy. It exacerbated the regime\u2019s infighting, revealing cracks in a fragile state and debunking propaganda that ascribes stability to the ruling system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As the state-run <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pishkhan.com\/news\/284131\" rel=\"noopener\">Etemad daily acknowledged<\/a> on November 13, people\u2019s reaction quickly sparked a trend of denial among the regime\u2019s parliamentarians. \u201cWith the increasing criticisms of MPs, whispers of denial began gradually echoing in the Majlis\u2019s corridors,\u201d it wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Many state-run news outlets, such as Tasnim and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mehrnews.com\/news\/5629752\/%D9%86%D8%A7%D9%85%D9%87-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%AA%D8%B3%D8%A8-%D8%A8%D9%87-%D8%B1%D8%A6%DB%8C%D8%B3-%D9%88-%D9%86%D9%85%D8%A7%DB%8C%D9%86%D8%AF%DA%AF%D8%A7%D9%86-%D9%85%D8%AC%D9%84%D8%B3-%D8%AC%D8%B9%D9%84%DB%8C-%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA\" rel=\"noopener\">Mehr News, branded<\/a> this statement as \u201cfake\u201d and \u201cfabricated\u201d by the regime\u2019s enemies. But none of the signatories had previously refuted this so-called \u2018rumor.\u2019 Why? Perhaps someone else had signed for them, and denying him would be a costly action,\u201d Etemad wrote, indirectly referring to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who has the final say in all matters within the ruling theocracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Majlis\u2019s public session on Sunday provided a clearer picture of Tehran\u2019s failure to control the uprising and its pathetic show of power.\u00a0 \u201cContrary to the vote transparency law, the parliament has not published the list of signatories of this inhumane statement,\u201d MP Jalal Mahmoodzadeh said, according to Iran\u2019s state TV broadcast of the Majlis session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ali Nikzad, who presided over Sunday\u2019s session, called the statement \u201cfake\u201d but said, \u201cThis statement was not inhumane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe parliament neglected the responsibility of its own statement. No one knows whether MPs backed down due to their fear of campaigns against their vote or if some authorities used the lawmakers\u2019 signature without their consent,\u201d Etemad wrote, once again poking Khamenei.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Following the major Iran protests in 2019, in which people put an end to the regime\u2019s game of \u201cmoderation,\u201d in February 2020, Khamenei purged parliamentary candidates from the rival faction. He literally handpicked the Majlis, paving the way for his decision to pull Ebrahim Raisi out of the ballot box in the sham presidential election to consolidate power in his regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Threatening <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2022-nationwide-uprising\/\" rel=\"noopener\">protesters<\/a> with capital punishment was indeed Khamenei\u2019s plan to intimidate the public, but it failed as the uprising continued. This continuation shows the regime\u2019s weakness and that fear has shifted to the mullahs\u2019 camp. The gang of hoodlums in parliament are afraid of people\u2019s reactions but cannot entirely call out this statement as they are part of the ruling theocracy.
