They urged the U.S. to raise the need to hold perpetrators of the 1988 massacre accountable at the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Various international media organizations covered the event, including Voice of America.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>Some 30,000 political prisoners, mainly affiliated to the opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, were executed in 1988 on Iran&#8217;s 1988 Massacre:<\/strong><\/p>\n<li>More than 30,000 political prisoners were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/26639-paris-remembers-iran-s-1988-massacre-urges-un-action-to-stop-the-ongoing-crime-against-humanity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">massacred in Iran<\/a>&nbsp;in the summer of 1988.<\/li>\n<li>The massacre was carried out on the basis of a fatwa by Khomeini.<\/li>\n<li>The vast majority of the victims were activists of the opposition People&#8217;s Mojahedin (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Death Commissions approved all the death sentences.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/24399-protests-against-u-n-speech-by-iran-regime-s-minister-implicated-in-mass-executions?highlight=WyJhbGlyZXphIiwiYWxpcmV6YSdzIiwiYXZhZWkiLCJhdmFlaSdzIiwiYWxpcmV6YSBhdmFlaSJd\">Alireza Avaei<\/a>, a member of the Death Commissions, is today Hassan Rouhani\u2019s Justice Minister.<\/li>\n<li>The perpetrators of the 1988 massacre have never been brought to justice.<\/li>\n<li>On August 9, 2016, an audiotape was published for the first time of <a
