Following his failure to control Iran\u2019s nationwide uprising despite imposing a heavy crackdown, Khamenei claimed protests would be \u201cwrapped up\u201d and finished soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the beginning of these demonstrations, Khamenei has delivered several speeches, each time claiming victory over the \u201cenemy,\u201d vowing to quash what he calls \u201criots\u201d and what Iranians consider a \u201crevolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In reaction to this, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/ncri\/alternative\/\" rel=\"noopener\">National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a>, said: \u201cKhamenei said they would terminate the \u2018riots\u2019 and the \u2018hotbeds of evil.\u2019 Yes, with the victory of the democratic revolution, the hotbeds of 4 decades of evil crimes by religious fascism will be swept away forever &amp; democracy and people\u2019s sovereignty will be established.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Khamenei said they would terminate the \u201criots\u201d and the \u201chotbeds of evil\u201d.<br \/>Yes, with the victory of the democratic revolution, the hotbeds of 4 decades of evil crimes by religious fascism will be swept away forever &amp; democracy and people\u2019s sovereignty will be established. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JzuknNyHrX\">pic.twitter.com\/JzuknNyHrX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1594005736794750978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 19, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei spoke about the \u201cwrapping up of protests\u201d while the uprising continued across Iran, with people calling out his regime and chanting \u201cdeath to the dictator\u201d and \u201cdeath to Khamenei.\u201d University students in dozens of cities continued their strikes while chanting anti-regime slogans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He boasted that the protests would be \u201cterminated\u201d in the near future, while his military officials, such as the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/iran-irgcs-fundamental-vulnerabilities\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a> commander Hossein Salami, have repeatedly claimed the uprising has already \u201cended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many experts consider Khamenei\u2019s speech on Saturday a \u201cpep talk\u201d aimed to boost the morale of his demoralized forces, as the uprising persists despite their brutality, and people are now fighting back against the heavily armed security forces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khamenei senses the existential threat this uprising poses to his regime better than anyone else. Therefore, he quickly pivoted on Saturday and made yet another contradictory remark.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe enemy has failed so far, but it lurks and plots daily,\u201d he said. So, if the uprising has ended and Khamenei\u2019s \u201cenemy\u201d has failed, what needs to be \u201cterminated?\u201d Maybe he means his real concern and \u201cvictory\u201d is that people and their <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-the-peoples-mojahedin-organization-of-iran-pmoi-mek\/\" rel=\"noopener\">organized Resistance<\/a> movement have not yet toppled his regime. Unfortunately, the enemy has a network inside the country and tries to spread the message of despair on social media,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the ruling theocracy has been squandering the national wealth, achieving nothing but misery for Iranians, Khamenei blatantly spoke of the regime\u2019s \u201cadvances,\u201d including the production of a \u201claunch vehicle\u201d and another new \u201cmissile.\u201d \u201cThe enemy tries to hinder these achievements by instigating riots,\u201d Khamenei claimed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nevertheless, the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader had to acknowledge the country\u2019s dire economic crisis, created and amplified by state corruption and ineptitude but blamed it on the Hassan Rouhani government. \u201cThe 2010s were not a good decade, economically. The government should have applied my recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is common knowledge that Khamenei is Iran\u2019s highest authority who selects the president. But by lashing out at the rival faction, Khamenei reminded the entire regime that the slightest rift at the top reduces the regime\u2019s ability to quash protests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As for the Iranian people, they have demonstrated their determination to topple the regime at any cost, also laying bare Khamenei\u2019s weakness. The protests on Sunday and Monday, particularly the heroic resistance of Iranians in the Kurdish region against the regime\u2019s all-out onslaught, once again showed that the nationwide uprising, which protesters themselves call a \u2018revolution,\u2019 would not end until the ominous rule of the mullahs has ended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But in so far as it concerns the international community, it should react to Khamenei\u2019s call for violence. Through Khamenei\u2019s order, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed, including dozens of children. Khamenei\u2019s IRGC thugs will certainly mount their violence to outflank the uprising. The West should indeed recognize the Iranian people\u2019s right to self-defense and hold Tehran accountable for its atrocities.
