Considered a major soccer-enthusiastic nation, Iranians closely followed the spectacle, but this time hoping the so-called <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/28\/world\/middleeast\/iran-us-soccer-protests.html\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cTeam Melli,<\/a>\u201d the mullahs\u2019 team de facto, would lose.<br \/>\nAfter more than 100 exhilarating minutes, the regime\u2019s team lost, and Iranian cities burst into scenes of joy and jubilation for a population that has been zealously defying anything that represents the ruling theocracy for the past three months. In their opinion, the Iranian people won, and the regime and its soccer team lost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">These celebrations are unique in Iran\u2019s contemporary history because Iran\u2019s dictators have politically misused the sport throughout the years in a bid to fortify their grip on power and misguide public opinion. Only a few days before flying to Qatar, players of the \u201cTeam Melli\u201d had met with the regime\u2019s president, Ebrahim Raisi, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/un-urged-open-query-into-irans-1988-killings-raisi-role-2022-01-27\/\" rel=\"noopener\">infamous for his role<\/a> in the 1988 massacre as well as the decades-long record in a judiciary that has ordered thousands of amputations and executions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Though, exploiting the national hype for political purposes has not been unprecedented in the country. The previous monarchial dictatorship also used the so-called national symbols to rally support and deceive people. Yet, this pales to what the clerical regime has done. Since taking power in 1979, the clerical regime has been cloaking its ominous projects in religious and national causes.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>-Tehran, people are jubilant over the defeat of the clerical regime\u2019s soccer team in the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WorldCup?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WorldCup<\/a>. This was not their national team, as it met with the henchman of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/1988Massacre?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#1988Massacre<\/a> Raisi before heading to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Dubai?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Dubai<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FTtFbjTQSr\">pic.twitter.com\/FTtFbjTQSr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1597741590818144256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 29, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This includes prolonging the anti-patriotic <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/irans-regime-a-major-obstacle-in-the-way-of-longstanding-peace-in-the-middle-east\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran-Iraq War<\/a> while calling it \u201cthe sacred defense\u201d to control Iran\u2019s restive and vibrant society by sending youth to war fronts as canon fodders and squandering billions of dollars on the nuclear weapons program, calling it \u201cnational technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The former helped religious fascism to brand dissidents as enemies of Islam and the country, both the acronyms of the clerical regimes. Stressing to drag out the war after all Iraqi forces left Iranian soil in 1982, Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy also fails to explain that if the Iran-Iraq War was a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/three-decades-after-iran-iraq-war-mullahs-regime-continues-its-warmongering-policies\/\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201csacred defense,\u201d<\/a> why was its main slogan \u201cconquering Jerusalem through Karbala?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Iran\u2019s regime continued the Iran-Iraq War at the cost of Iranians, resulting in over one million deaths and injuries on the Iranian side. The country\u2019s infrastructure was seriously damaged, and authorities later acknowledged they had at least one billion dollars\u2019 worth of damage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tehran also wasted national wealth in advancing its nuclear program. Due to its vast natural resources, such as fossil fuels, Iran doesn\u2019t need a nuclear program. During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad\u2019s era as the regime\u2019s president, the clerical regime earned <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncrius.org\/economic-professor-mismanagement-and-corruption-have-caused-economic-misery-in-iran-not-the-sanctions.html\" rel=\"noopener\">$800 billion<\/a> in oil revenues. What happened to this windfall of cash? It was squandered on developing the nuclear program and funding Tehran\u2019s terrorist proxy groups, forcing Iranian children to search for food in the garbage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Feeling desperate vis-\u00e0-vis what many consider Iran\u2019s democratic revolution, the clerical regime once again opted to divert people\u2019s attention and stimulate \u201cnational emotions\u201d by using the soccer team and the World Cup 2022. Yet, it has failed miserably.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> ians are jubilant over the defeat of the clerical regime\u2019s soccer team in the World Cup. People chant: Desperate leader, your grave is being readied. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranvsUSA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranvsUSA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s14Y8pEpUZ\">pic.twitter.com\/s14Y8pEpUZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1597874873249849344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 30, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nearly three months of incessant protests have indeed increased public awareness. Besides, the animosity between people and the regime has reached an irreversible point, and people reject anything and anyone symbolizing the clerical regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">But the role of the Iranian Resistance in debunking all the regime\u2019s religious and nationalist claims is very notable. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization<\/a> of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) was the only progressive Muslim democratic opposition that rejected the referendum on the regime\u2019s constitution and has advocated for the regime\u2019s downfall while insisting on the fact that Iran\u2019s ruling theocracy is indeed the main enemy of Islam. The MEK condemned mandatory veiling and the regime\u2019s discrimination towards religious and ethnic minorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This happened while the Iranian regime continued its killing spree, targeting women and religious minorities, or instigating sectarian wars in Syria and Iraq, under the pretext of protecting Islam. Decades-long of exposing the regime\u2019s propaganda campaigns and the exploitation of Iranians\u2019 strong drive for nationalism has contributed to widespread awakening. In their protests, people chanted slogans such as \u201cThey [the regime] uses Islam, making people\u2019s lives miserable\u201d and \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2009\/09\/-neither-gaza-nor-lebanon-i-give-my-life-to-iran\/26842\/\" rel=\"noopener\">No Gaza, nor Lebanon, my life for Iran<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In 1988, the Iranian Resistance forced the regime\u2019s then-supreme leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, to accept the cease-fire with Iraq and end the war he had vowed to \u201ccontinue until the last brick in Tehran. &#8220;He later described accepting the cease-fire as \u201cdrinking a chalice of poison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Iranian <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/exclusive-report\/timeline-of-ncris-revelations-to-prevent-a-nuclear-armed-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Resistance is proud<\/a> to expose the regime\u2019s anti-patriotic nuclear weapons program, and it remains committed to the historic task of preventing an aggressive, virulently sectarian, and repression theocracy from developing weapons of mass destruction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The current deep national understanding, which didn\u2019t happen overnight, indicates a revolution in the making in Iran. Iranians have identified their enemy, the ruling theocracy, and do not want to reform this brutal regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Now the world powers should hear and embrace the Iranian people&#8217;s will to regime change and have a democratic country. They should cut all ties with Tehran and recognize the Iranian people\u2019s right to self-determination and self-defense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Millions of Iranians watched the soccer match between Iran and the United States in World Cup.
