Iran’s regime is denying political prisoner Majid\u00a0<\/a>Assadi<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>medical treatment in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) Prison in Karaj.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Assadi<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>is suffering from various illnesses, including severe pain in his spine and digestive problems which have intensified as a result of prison\u00a0authorities\u2019\u00a0continued hindering of his medical process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He is being denied access to a hospital outside the prison because he has refused to wear a prison garb at the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Forcing political prisoners to wear prison clothes during outside hospital appointments is a method used by Iran’s regime to humiliate them in public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the main force behind the Iranian regime’s terrorism and malign behavior in the region<\/p>\n

Assadi, 35, suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), a rheumatism disease that affects the spine, according to physicians.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

AS syndrome is considered a dangerous disease, and\u00a0Assadi\u00a0needs to visit a hospital outside the prison every three months to control the illness, according to Iran Human Rights Monitor. However, due to obstructions imposed by prison authorities and the regime\u2019s judiciary, he has no access to physicians or specialized care.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In September 2019, a court hearing scheduled for\u00a0Assadi\u00a0was canceled for the second time following his refusal to wear a prison garb during his transfer for the court procedures.\u00a0Assadi\u00a0was also protesting illegal measures taken by prison authorities, according to reports obtained from inside Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Prior to this,\u00a0Assadi\u00a0was summoned to a court affiliated to Tehran\u2019s notorious Evin Prison on August 18. However, those hearings were also canceled due to his refusal to wear a prison garb.\u00a0Assadi\u00a0also protested the authorities\u2019 insistence that his be cuffed and his feet chained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Assadi\u00a0has been behind bars in Gohardasht since his arrest by Intelligence Ministry agents on February 18, 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On November 27, 2018, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to six years in prison and two years in exile in Borazjan, Bushehr Province, on vague charges, such as \u201cthreatening national security through assembly and collusion,\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

A translator at a private company,\u00a0Assadi\u00a0was previously sentenced to four years in prison in March 2010 for \u201cassembly and collusion against national security\u201d by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court.
