Following Transfer of Four Inmates to Death Row, Clashes Erupted in Karaj Prison<\/h3>\n

Today, December 17, following the transfer of four prisoners to death row for execution, prisoners of the third hall at Karaj Central Prison started protesting and chanting “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator”.<\/p>\n

According to the sources, clashes were reported between the prisoners and guards. A number of inmates have reportedly been injured. Other accounts suggest that a number of firefighter engines and anti-riot units were dispatched to quell the unrest. The sound of shooting could be heard outside the prison. There are reports that the prisoners were shot and one person was wounded. The latter has not yet been independently confirmed.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the conflict, all phone lines have been disconnected.\u00a0More recent news indicates that the doors of the halls inside the prison were broken by the prisoners and a large number of armed forces are stationed at the prison gate. The families of the prisoners are not allowed to attend to follow up on the condition of their loved ones.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, December 17, the price of the US dollar exceeded 39,300 tomans<\/a>. The rapid fall of the regime’s official currency exacerbates the critical crisis of the mullahs’ rule, and according to state media, the crisis has entered the “zone of anxiety”. Meanwhile, some reports from inside the country suggest that infantry and motorcycle police units in Tehran were dispatched to several currency exchange offices.<\/p>\n

Iran Protests Continue as Brave Baluchis Take to the Streets Yet Again<\/h3>\n

The nationwide uprising in Iran marked its 92nd<\/sup> day on Friday, with the brave Baluchi community of Sistan & Baluchestan Province, located in southeast Iran, taking to the streets again today in line with their continuous anti-regime weekly protests held every Friday. The Baluchis\u2019 endurance continues despite regime security forces continuing their crackdown against this long-oppressed community.<\/p>\n

Protests in Iran have to this day expanded to at least 280 cities. Over 700 people have been killed and more than 30,000 are arrested by the regime\u2019s forces, according to sources of the Iranian opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>). The names of 580 killed protesters have been\u00a0published<\/a>\u00a0by the PMOI\/MEK.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ayda Rostami Found Dead with a Smashed Face, Broken Arm, and Enucleated Eye<\/h3>\n

Another physician<\/a>, Dr. Ayda Rostami, has been killed by security forces in Tehran.\u00a0Monday, December 12, 2022, Dr. Ayda Rostami called her mother at 7 p.m. from Chamran Hospital, where she worked. She asked her mother whether she needed something to buy on her way home. But she did not return home.\u00a0On Tuesday, the police station in Tehran\u2019s Ekbatan district called the family of Dr. Ayda Rostami and told them to go to the station. There, they gave them a letter indicating that she had been killed in an accident and that they should go to the Forensics Office to receive her body.<\/p>\n

Mohammad Mehdi Karami\u2019s Life at Risk of Execution<\/h3>\n

Mohammad Mehdi Karami, 22, is a Karate champion and has several championship medals.
\nMohammad Mehdi Karami has been identified by Iran\u2019s Judiciary as the front-row defendant in the case of Ruhollah Ajmian, a Basij Force member who was killed during the protests. He was found dead on November 3, 2022, in Karaj, during a ceremony commemorating the 40th day after state security forces killed Hadis Najafi.<\/p>\n

Mr. Karami was arrested by security forces on November 5, 2022, and beaten so hard that he fell unconscious to the ground. Government forces thought he was dead and threw his \u201cbody\u201d outside the Nazarabad Court. But as they were leaving, they realized he was still alive. After taking him back inside, they broke his rib under torture and injured his hands and head.<\/p>\n
